My time here was just beginning, I knew that, but I couldn't help but want to be at home. I had come here over the end of Christmas break; which meant that I had a two day adjustment period and then school would start back up. Elle had told me that if I needed more time to adjust before starting the new school then I could take a week and get situated, but I ensured her that it wasn't necessary.
Being new to this area not only meant having to meet the principal of the school and wasting an hour on a welcome tour, but it also meant that I did not have a ride to school. By the time I got ready and went down for breakfast, the table was half empty.
"Oh Annie, we were getting worried," Elle said, "you almost missed a ride to school. Tyler is the only one still here, he can take you. That actually works out well, you're both seniors."
I nodded my head; I didn't care who took me, it only mattered that I got there. Tyler didn't seem to like the idea; he threw his fork down on his plate and walked away from the table.
"Tyler!" Elle shouted after him, but he kept walking. She smiled awkwardly at me, "he's not usually like that, I'm sorry Annie."
"Don't worry about it." I grabbed a piece of toast and followed after Tyler. "Hey, you got a problem?" I asked him once we were outside.
"Let's go," he said climbing into his black mustang. Wonderful, I thought to myself. I got into the car and we sat in silence while he backed out of the driveway.
Once we were out I tried talking to him again, "So, what do you-" he cut me off by turning the radio up so there was no way I could be heard.
After ten minutes of driving we pulled up in the parking lot where we were met by two guys yelling Tyler's name; following closely behind them was a pretty girl with deep red hair that looked like the outside layer of a fire.
As I stepped out of the car, both guys asked Tyler who I was and then turned to me and asked how I got caught up with Tyler; I could feel the girl's eyes piercing at me, almost glaring but not quite.
I looked to Tyler and waited for him to answer, but I didn't care for the answer he gave, "her? She's no one."
Okay. I'm not sure what answer I wanted, but that one stung a little. I shook my head at him and walked toward the building; I'd figure it out myself.
Once inside it took me a minute to find the office and get my schedule and locker. Since this is my final semester I had most of my necessary credits and my schedule was easy.
1- Pottery
2- Statistics
3- Advanced Fitness
4- Modern Literature
5- Study Hall
This was easy enough; I could do this for a few months.
I texted Harry once I was sitting in my art class. I missed him; I also told him that I wished we'd gone to Vegas because I was not having a good day.
He took a while to answer and by the time I got his message I was in my gym class. He told me that he missed me too and that he would see me soon.
In my fitness class we had to work in pairs, I ended up working with a green-eyed girl named Abigail; we were playing badminton, but neither of us were particularly skilled at it so it wasn't working well. She did seem to be rather funny though and I was starting to think that maybe I'd found a friend.
After P.E. I had lunch, Abigail invited me to sit with her and her friends. While at lunch I learned a little about Abby and her friends, Roy and Hope. Abby goalie for the soccer team at the school and Roy was on the hockey team. Hope was in DECA and on quizbowl; this is an interesting friend group.
A little while into lunch they asked me some questions: Why'd I move here? Where am I from? Play any sports? I answered them honestly. My mom is sick. Michigan. Figure skating, if that counts. They were intrigued, I could tell, but I couldn't tell about which part.
About halfway through lunch one of the Bryce boys came to sit by me, the one that showed me to my room my first day- Alex. He just joined the table and asked how my day was and how I was adjusting and such. I told him that it wasn't a particularly good first day, but I'm doing fine. He also asked if I would want a ride home from him- I eagerly accepted not wishing to spend any time in the car with Tyler.
I told him that then asked, "what's his deal anyway? He was a total ass to me this morning."
Alex took a minute before answering, like he was contemplating whether or not to tell me something, "I'm not sure; I'll talk to him though." He walked away after that.
Abby kind of looked at me like 'did that just happen' I looked at her and shrugged my shoulders like it was no big deal. "I gotta go, guys."
Abby was not about to let that happen; she walked me to my next class- slowly. How do you know Alex? Why did he offer you a ride home? Why were you with Tyler this morning?
"Abby, I'm staying with them, it's really not a big deal."
She had a field day with that, "Not a big deal?! They're the Bryce brothers; not only are they hot, but they sure know how to party."
"I don't see it. I am a taken woman," I stuck my tongue out at her.
"Ok, look. Tyler is the oldest-"
"He's actually not, there are two older ones," I said interrupting.
She glared at me, "I meant in the school, smart ass. Anyway, Tyler's a senior and he is one hundred percent gorgeous; he comes with Taylor though, the red-head attached at his hip- watch out for her, she gets very jealous. Next is Alex, you know, he's also a senior, but he's not even a full year younger than Tyler. I would love to have me a piece of that one. He's smart and hot."
"Alright, they're eye- candy, I get it, they're not meat though, stop talking about how hot they are."
"Fine. After those two are Kyle, Brandon, and Nick. Kyle is a junior and incredibly quiet. You won't hear from him often, but him and his girlfriend, Alexis, are one hundred percent OTP. Brandon and Nick are twins and sophomores; if they weren't that young I would have scooped one up, they're delicious. Oops, sorry. Continuing, Brandon is a junior varsity baseball player, the pitcher. Nick is quite the band geek, if you ask me, but he's really funny."
"I'm sorry, could you repeat all of that again? I want to write it down this time."
"Very funny, Annie."
We went to our classes after that and at the end of the day I awkwardly stood around my locker waiting for one of the boys that I could recognize so I could get a ride home, or at least get me to Alex. I really ought to have their phone numbers. Or my own car, I like that idea best.
It took Alex five minutes to find me and then he drove me home, but when I got back I was hit with a huge surprise.
