Hatchet

The festival went pretty well I'd say. There's not a lot of people that venture outside anymore. Town numbers have been on the decrease for the past couple months. I guess it is because of the whole murder is on the loose thing again. Now I am doubting that it was even Nick's father that did it. After I arrived back home in my truck and Nick followed behind in his truck, he took me to the barn to show the evidence.

"Ugh." Was the first reaction I had. "That's so gross. Who's been here?" The hatchets were in the back corner in the same place that the chicken was found. There were two. The thing that bothered me the most is I got rid of the axes and hatchets that were in the barn. I was going to get a new one, but I never did because I never needed one. There were supposed to be none of that kind of stuff in the barn.

He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know Norah."

"There's some dried blood on it." I had to point it out. It appeared very oxidized and a brownish-red color. Pretty nasty.

"Yes there is and it's indeed gross. I just need to know who this was. Berry has murdered her own family and a couple other people. What is going on?" Nick asked.

Melinda also showed up at my house to thank me. Melinda looked up at him. "You know, that's weird. Huckleberry Dale? I've only met her once and she didn't seem very kind. Her soul seemed locked away."

"Yep, that's true!" I said.

"I don't wanna seem too on edge, but I think it's been Berry. Have you seen her around?" He asked.

Melinda had left our house after giving thanks for my efforts. It was just Nick and I. We sat down on the hay bales next to the animal feed. "That's not good, but we'll work through it."

"Yep. Just like we always do." He responded.
