The breeze hit my face differently. It was as if the wind was drying the tears that stained my face. Nick and I rode horses for hours. It took the pain away as if nothing happened. When we got back I saw a big plume of smoke. At first, We just thought they were burning ditches, but it was evident that it wasn't the case. The Dales house was on fire and the fire department was there. Did they finally get busted?
Later that day, I had a conversation with my parents. They brought up the stain that caused tears to flow. "You were adopted, not Berry. Your real last name is Dale not Jean." I could not believe it. "The Dales could not take care of more than one. They had a financial crisis too." Sure, that almost seemed too good to be true.
"Sure mom! What the heck. So what's true? You said that she was adopted!"
"No, you were. You were." She gave a smirk like I was stupid.
I folded my arms, "Stop. I don't wanna know more. This ain't nice for me right now." I finally was able to get all of my things. I returned back to the small guest house where Nick waited at the patio. I still stay at the guest house while Nick stays in his own house. We do spend a lot of time with the animals. I help milk cows and complete farm chores. The guest house's patio covered enough space for a bench and two tiny chairs.
"Hey." He greeted me.
"Hi Nick. I got the rest of my stuff. That only took a month and a lot of threats." I put the bags inside and returned to sit by Nick on the bench.
"All is gonna be well. I think..." he smiled.
"Yeah. We shall see..." I rested my head on his shoulder. His hat hit the top of my head, but I did not care.
"Feeling better yet?" He asked.
My mind spun. "A little bit. I still have pain."
The birds flew in between the pillars of the porch. It was nice to see them perform their neat aerobatics. That sight is somethin' else.
