The cold air pricks at my skin but it's not unpleasant. Each step I take is rewarded with the pleasant crunch of snow beneath me. I sway my head to the rhythm my movement makes.
I've always loved Snowdin. Nice scenery and even nicer monsters. Some of the best huggers I've ever known. Of course, mom and dad have them beat 10x over.
The forest is always a nice treat but the town is the true shining star.
"Just wait till you see it, Frisk!" I say with a grin, "I know you'll love it!"
The shorter girl looks up at me, returning my smile. "I'm excited!"
"I wonder if the rabbit family still runs the shop?" I ask no one in particular.
"How long has it been since you've been here Chara?" Frisk asks curiously.
"I... don't really know," I admit with a shrug. "I haven't been a conscious dead kid until now."
She grimaces at my words, which makes me snicker. "Oh come on Frisk." I roll my eyes at her. "I'm the one whose dead remember?"
"It's just a bit odd you're so cheery about it.." She remarks.
"Nothing I can really do about it," I reply. "I'm not exactly joyous to be dead but there's no reason to be melancholic."
"Melan- what now?"
"Melancholic." I repeat. "Put simply it's a fancy word for sad."
"Right, right." Frisk crosses her arms and rolls her eyes. "Thank you for enlightening me oh princess." She mimics the formal bow I greeted her with when we first met.
"Ugh I wish you wouldn't do that." I grumble.
"Then stop being such an old prude."
"Excuse me for being raised by royalty."
"You are excused princess."
I scoff again. "Seriously though, just Chara."
She giggles and playfully bumps into me. "I know, I'm just teasing you." She beams a bright and happy smile. "I do want you to stop with all the formal stuff though."
"It's not exactly easy Frisk." I say with a sigh.
"Yeah but you're older then me and if you ever call me ma'am or miss again I think I'll puke."
I feel my cheeks heat up in embarrassment. "Asgore's horn please don't remind me." I groan.
She snickers at me. "Don't do it again and I won't." She puts out her hand. "Shake on it?" She asks.
"No more formal stuff." I answer as I extend my pinky. "I've always preferred this anyway."

Chara begins to stir and I look down as her eyes flutter open.
The light reflects off her blood red orbs and she stares at the ceiling for a long moment.
I tilt my head in confusion and follow her gaze.
The bare ceiling is the only reward and I return my attention to the red eyed demon.
Her line of sight remains unwavering.
"Chara?" An edge of concern creeps into my voice.
"Hm?" She replies, switching her focus to me and smiling.
