I grab Nathan's hand and pull him out of my bedroom, descending the stairs and taking in the chaos in front of me.
Trent, who's been here all afternoon is greeting his wife Ridley with a kiss before picking up his daughter, Dawn whos the same age as Carolina, and twirling her around. He ruffles the hair of his 12-year-old son Ryder and embraces him in a hug after putting Dawn down.
Trent and Ridley were the last couple out of my parent's friend group to get together. Not starting to date until he saw her as the personal trainer for his NFL team after college and couldn't stop thinking about her even though they went to high school together.
Aubrey and Jack enter the living room next, their daughter who's also the same age as Carolina, Sutton immediately running over to where Carolina is sitting on the couch, Dawn following closely behind her.
When the three of them finally get to each other squeals erupt through the first floor of the house and they all join hands and start talking at a million miles an hour.
Aubrey and Jack have been dating forever. They have been dating for even longer than my parents but didn't get married until Aubrey finished her residency and Jack surprised everyone by taking her last name.
My uncle's Trent still gives him shit for being and I quote, "a pussy whipped bitch." Although he gets a slap to the back of the head every time he says it from his wife.
I look to the side of me and see Nathan in what looks like a state of shock. waving my hand in front of his face, I try to get him to snap out of it and he finally does, releasing a loud breath.
"Do you need a rundown of everyone?" I whisper in his direction and he absently nods his head.
"Ok, Ridley and Trent are married, the boy who keeps staring at me is their son, Ryder, and their daughter, Dawn is the one with glasses over by my little sister. Aubrey and Jack are married and their daughter is the one with the red curly pigtails. Anything else?"
"No, I think I'm just... overwhelmed. This is the most people I think I've ever seen in a house in my life." He says absently, still just looking around at everyone while we stand on the stairs.
I frown for him, thinking of how lonely he must be without any siblings and with his mom out of town. My mind starts to soar with a picture of having Nathan around my family more.
"It's a lot to take in the first time but once you get used to it it gets easier." I say as I quickly erase the vision in my mind of Nathan getting comfortable with my family and my family treating him like one of their own because this thing between us isn't real.
No matter how excited I feel whenever I see him.
Instead of being able to slowly introduce everyone to Nathan and not make him go into shock, Jackson comes barreling down the stairs, swinging both of his arms around our shoulders and practically pulling us down the rest of the stairs. Once we make a plop at the bottom of the stairs every pair of eyes shoots over to us and I feel Nathan's hand crushing mine in his grip while my face heats like a tomato.
