It was our prom night. Aya and I decided to take my big brother as our date to our farewell.

The evening unfolded with anticipation as our names echoed through the house.

"Mahle, Aya, pumani kulo room, nizoba late mahn!" Mom's voice resounded from the lounge.

Sis Tee, Aya's mom, joined in, her voice carrying from another part of the house, "No wonder ningena dates nje ngoba ninje!"

Amused, we exchanged glances and chuckled. Grabbing our clutches, we sauntered out, a sense of confidence enveloping us. Dare I say, we looked hella fine!

As we emerged, the room fell silent for a beat, and then we broke it with a bold, "And???"

Their reactions were priceless. It was a gathering of significant figures — Mom, Sis Tee (Tabisa), Ta Tee (Tabiso), Aya's folks, Aunt May (our helper), and Alu, our date.

Ta Tee broke the silence with a heartfelt, "Wow!"

Mom, caught up in the moment, exclaimed, "I think I'm gonna cry." We all shared a collective laugh at her emotional response.

Sis Tee, ever the organizer, suggested, "Come, let's take pictures already."

Aunt May, our caring helper, added, "Anisebahle bantwana bam. Niziphathe kakuhle vah." (You guys look so beautiful. Do behave, please.)

Alu, the designated guardian, assured, "I'll keep an eye on them, mah."

With a playful eye roll, I responded, "Of course, you will."

Aya chimed in, "When have we ever disappointed?" Confidence radiated from both of us as we embarked on a night that promised to be memorable.

We took lots and lots of pictures, and by the time it was 6:45, we had to be there at 7. The convoy was scheduled for 6:00 pm, but we weren't those girls...

As the night unfolded, Aya and I emerged from our rooms, ready to turn heads and make an impression. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, and our chosen outfits were a testament to the effort we had put into our appearance.

Aya, the epitome of elegance, donned a strapless cream-long dress adorned with intricate silver details along the front. The dress clung to every curve of her body, leaving no contour unnoticed. Her Brazilian weave cascaded in tight curls, framing her face with a touch of sophistication. Aya's makeup, a masterpiece of simplicity, highlighted her features, with the focal point being her burgundy lips. Her nails, painted in a subdued nude pink, matched flawlessly with her 6-inch heels and the compact nude pink clutch she held.

On the other hand, I chose a more playful yet chic ensemble. My 20-inch straight weave flowed freely, open on one side, adding a touch of drama. The light purple knee-length dress I wore hugged my upper body, while a subtle tutu underneath introduced shades of purple, creating a whimsical effect. My accessories were all silver — from the shoes that adorned my feet to the necklace gracefully encircling my neck, the bracelet adorning my wrist, and the silver and purple clutch I held. To complement the ensemble, I opted for dark purple lips, a striking contrast against the simplicity of the rest of my makeup. Even my nails echoed the rich hue, aligning with the color of my lips.

And then there was Alu, a vision of charisma in his well-chosen attire. He exuded an effortless coolness in black chinos paired with a dark purple blazer. A crisp white t-shirt provided a clean canvas for his ensemble, and a perfectly tied nude pink tie added a touch of sophistication. Black vans adorned his feet, and a silver watch completed the look. The overall effect was undeniably hot, drawing eyes towards him wherever he went.

Together, we formed a trio of style and charisma, ready to take on the night with an air of confidence that only a meticulously planned ensemble could provide.
