We woke up at 5 am and did the necessary. By 6:30, we were done and downstairs, eating breakfast and waiting for Mom to take us to school.
I checked my WhatsApp. I had messages from my classmates, Alex, Kay & Siya, and 5 texts from Sandiso. I smiled and then opened them.
Text 1: "Look, I'm sorry the way I handled things with my ex doesn't sit well with you. Tomorrow I will go and apologize to her."
Text 2: "But Mahle, you're not the only reason I ended things with her."
Text 3: "Mahle?"
Text 4: "Your voice, though. Lord knows I didn't want to stop talking to you, but hey! Every princess needs their beauty sleep, right?! Goodnight again, Angel. Sleep tight."
Text 5: "I can't wait to see you tomorrow :)"
In the bustling morning atmosphere, Mom's playful voice interrupted our conversation.
"Madam!"
Aya, always the teasing friend, chimed in, "Inkulu into ekulo phone, soze uve sana... you even pink from that whole blushing you've been doing."
I pleaded, "Can we go, guys?"
Mom, with a mischievous glint in her eye, teased further, "We were just waiting for you... so who's the lucky guy.... huh?!"
"Mom, we're gonna be late!" I urged, trying to shift the focus.
We walked together to the car, and just as we approached, his name popped up on my screen. A wave of blush spread across my face as I answered.
"Morning, beautiful," he greeted.
"Hey," I replied.
"How are you, and how did you sleep, my angel?" he inquired sweetly.
"I'm good. I slept well, thanks. And what about you?" I responded, aware of Mom stealing glances at me.
"I'm good too, thanks. I slept great. You have a very beautiful voice, Mahle," he complimented.
"Thank you," I blushed. "I have to go. I just got to school."
"Me too. See you in a bit," he said before ending the call.
"Bye, ladies. Enjoy your day," Mom bid us farewell as she left.
Aya, ever curious, jumped in, "Are you two like a thing now?"
I quickly denied, "What?! No!"
"Here he comes. See you in class. Bye," Aya teased before departing.
"Aya... Ayanda, man."
Soon after, Sandiso approached, and with a charming smile, he greeted, "Hey, beautiful. May I?" gesturing towards my bag.
"Hey. I guess you may," I responded.
He continued, "How's your morning so far? Because mine has been awesome."
"It's been okay... thanks. This is my cue," I replied, feeling a bit flustered.
"Uhhm, okay then. See you around," he said, a hint of disappointment in his voice.
"Yeah, sure. Bye," I said, grabbing my bag and entering the classroom. I placed it in its usual spot and went to stand by the gate.
As people streamed in, I noticed Sisanda, Sandiso's ex, giving me an evil look. Here comes trouble.
The school bell rang, signaling the end of the day. As I walked through the crowded hallways, I spotted Sisanda, and without thinking, I approached her.
