It had been about 6 months since you'd escaped the compound. Not a sight of Touya anywhere, after a while you stopped looking. You had a feeling he didn't want to be found yet. He'd left a message on the wall about a month ago telling you he was still around. But despite your life building up the Phantom Shadows, and making plans to get hired as professional thieves. You still found yourself wandering over to the apartments from time to time.
It had been a particularly difficult night, you'd got jumped by a few guys who were pissed you'd stolen from their boss. Of course, out of self-defense, you'd used your quick which was mistake one. Mistake two was you didn't kill all of them so they knew your face and started a full-blown underground search. And last but certainly not least, the heroes were too close for comfort. They showed up probably 3o seconds after your snowstorm went off. Stopping you from being able to flee easily. So you've been dodging the underground and the streets all night. Luckily they weren't patrolling the Neonraito district, if you could get there you'd be safe.
You manage with a huge stroke of luck to get into the district, and no one here was looking for you. You creep down into the small basement of a house you knew of. It was one of the safe houses you'd set up to hide in. Just for situations like this, thank god you think ahead. You jump down the concert steps and open the door. You freeze before managing to close the door. Someone was here already, somewhere in the darkness of the main room. You close the door behind you pulling out your knife. A bright blue fire lights up the room nearly blinding you. You see the silhouette of someone, most likely a kid like you behind the light. Your hand shakes as you already know whos standing in front of you. You remember those beautifully deadly flames like you'd seen them yesterday.
"Touya."
You whisper out as the flames fade away. You stand there in the dark, your eyes adjusting slowly. The silence slowly kills you, as the air grows stagnant. You reach your hand to him but he slaps it away causing you to flinch. You hear his voice it was different, rougher, and deeper.
"Where were you?"
You flinch at his tone as it's filled with accusations. You feel the guilt that's been drowning you for months slowly take hold.
"I'm so sorry Touya-."
"Touya's dead."
You look at the silhouette of Touya seeing if he would move closer.
"What happened?"
"Do you not remember, because I sure as hell do. Don't stand there confused as fuck and start blaming me for everything! I told you not to go, I warned you it would be bad! But did you listen to me!? No! You went and set yourself on fire and I had to drag your half-dead, burnt-up body out of the fucking flames of hell!"
There was silence once again between the two of you. You decided to simply go off and say everything you wanted to. It was clear he hated you so no harm in speaking up.
"Either way I'd do it again. I don't care if you hate me, you're alive and that's good enough for me."
His raspy voice breaks the silence once again.
"Where did you go?"
You grab the chain that was still around your neck and tugged on it slightly.
"I was captured, I think I was taken by traffickers or something. They kept me chained up and drugged me for months. I was able to escape with another kid."
The tears slowly form in your eyes as you remember that horrible place. Touya takes a step closer reaching out his hand slowly. You watch the shadowed hand come closer causing you anxiety. You take a step back avoiding touching him. He pulls away and sighs quietly in the dark.
"Well, what do we do now?"
"I, I don't know. I've just been trying to survive. Steru and I have been collecting people to join our crew."
"Steru?"
"Sterusu, he's the one I got out with. I've been living in the underground with him."
Touya walks over to the door in the kitchen that led outside. You turn around watching him pull his hood on.
"Wait Touya."
"I told you, Touya's dead."
"Where are you going?"
"Out the door."
The tears come streaming down your face as you watch him open the door and disappear through it. He was leaving you, he must hate you for what you did. You sit down on the ground pulling your knees to your chest. You sobbed as you rocked back and forth, trying not to fall apart again.
About half an hour later the door opens causing you to fly over the couch to hide. You hold your knife close as you stay still. You hear rustling and the light turned on. You blink confused as you look at the yellow lightbulb flickering softly. There was never power in this place before. How long has he been hiding out here? His raspy voice floats through the air softly.
"You still here?"
You feel the corners of your lips lift up ever so slightly. You speak quietly as you stare at the wall, more or less terrified to see him.
"Yeah."
You hear his footsteps approach as he sits on the floor at the front of the couch. The corner of the couch obscured your vision, all you could see were his shoes. He places a bag on the edge of the couch. You grab it quickly, still hiding from him as you open the bag. You smile as you see the food inside the box. You grab up the cold noodles stuffing them into your mouth. Touya chuckles softly as he sits there.
"You're more feral than before eh?"
You huff out causing you to choke on the food. You cough up the noodles and gasp for air before eating again. You finish scarfing down the food and put the bag down looking at his shoes. He speaks up softly, his scratchy voice still throwing you off.
"Are you scared of what you'll see?"
You look at the floor, pulling up the decaying strands of carpet.
"How can I face you T-. I feel so guilty for everything that happened. I half expected you to try to kill me when you saw me again. Yet here you are feeding me and talking to me."
"I was mad for a while, but once I realized something clearly happened I was just worried."
You fumble with the strands of the carpet before noticing his slow movements. You plaster yourself against the wall beside the couch as Touya moves towards you. He slowly scoots around the side of the couch sitting in front of you. You look at the floor, you don't know how to face him.
"I don't blame you Aiko, not one bit."
Your eyes wander up his dark clothes to his face. You feel your heart stop as you see the staples holding his deep purple scarred skin to his healed skin. You smile softly and reach out your hand to him. He takes your hand softly putting your fingertips on his stapled skin.
"I'm happy you healed up alright."
He looks into your eyes, his white hair falling into his face.
"I'm sorry I made you worry Aiko."
Your heart sinks as you feel the rough scared skin under your touch.
"Does it hurt?"
"Worry about yourself for a moment alright?"
You feel the tears start to stream down your face as you look at him. He was alive, and more importantly, he doesn't hate you. He was finally here, right in front of you, looking into your eyes. But you could see it, he wasn't himself anymore, not an ounce of the kid you've known for years was in his eyes anymore.
