Chapter 2

Y/N pov

I had no surgeries today so they assigned me in the ER. Now when you actually see the stress the guys who work in the ER are under you realise that working upstairs isn't as bad as you think.

"What do we have here?" I asked as a patient was being wheeled in.

"Carine Sanchez, 24 year old. Car accident. BP is stable. Mild concussion, laceration on the head and a possible fracture collarbone." A paramedic told me.

"Trauma 6 is open." I told them as I led them. "We need lydicane, sutures and alcohol wipes." I told the nurse who got me the equipment I needed. "Ok Carine, do you have any history of drug abuse or addiction?" I asked.

"No." She told me quietly. "I'm tired." She told me as I smiled at her as I took the syringe and filled it with the appropriate amount of numbing agent.

"This may sting." I told her as I inserted the syringe and injected the numbing agent into the area surrounding the deep laceration. "I am going to put some dissolvable sutures in the cut on your head." I told her as I started with the procedure.

"We have a 50 min wait on the portable x ray machine." Ty told me.

"Ok." I replied as I concentrated. "What about the x ray department?"

"Fully booked." They told me.

"Ok. Carine, we have a wait for x ray so I am going to need you to keep that arm elevated ok?" I told her as I concentrated on the knots of each suture. She nodded as she done as I had informed her. The laceration was quite big so I decided to talk to make her feel comfortable. "So, Carine what is it that you do?" I asked her.

"I am a waitress." She told me shyly.

"Wow. Which restaurant?" I asked her.

"Luigi's." She said with a smile.

"I was just there last week on a blind date." I told her as I was almost finished. "My friend, he's an oncologist. He wanted me to go on a blind date so he could go out with this girl he has been crushing on since college." I told as I snipped before doing another.

"That's not nice of him." She spoke. "What if she wasn't nice or a guy." She said making me chuckle.

"She was a beautiful woman." I told her as I finished up. "I was surprised too, but we had an amazing time together. Even in the car ride to hers." I told her as I tidied up the used tools.

"Are you seeing her again?" She asked me as I cleaned her wound.

"Yes, I would love to but I have a busy week lined up and she is a grade school teacher." I told her with a smile. 

"You should see about after work." She told me. "With this accident, life is too short so live in the now." She said which I just nodded. 

"I'll text her on my lunch." I smiled at her which she returned just as bright. After a while, we had finally gotten the x ray machine for her shoulder. "You have a clean fracture which means there is no need for surgery." I told her as I came back with a sling. "So we are just going to put your arm in a sling and when you go home, you need to keep it elevated." I told her as I tied the knot behind her neck.

"Thank you doctor." She smiled at me. 

"So I will sort out your prescription and paperwork and you are free to go home." I told her as I wrote on the clipboard at the bottom of her bed before giving her a smile and leaving. 

"Y/N!" I heard Colin shout as he approached me in his blue scrubs.

"Colin." I greeted him. 

"I heard you were down here playing with us big boys." He smirked as Melinda gave him a funny look. "And women. Sorry Mel." He apologised to her which still only resulted in a glare. I had to fight back  a smile as he tried to rectify himself.
