Aleah's POV

Silence...

That was what greeted my announcement to the council. I knew they will be shocked by my announcement.

"Congratulations, Your Majesty?" Lord Harlan said.

Ah, Lord Harlan, ever the innocent. Maybe because he is the youngest and newest member of the District Lords.

"I, thank you, Lord Harlan." I saw Rain come up the dais but he did not stand beside he just stood a few steps below me. That way he could look me in the eye and at the same time show that authority was still with me. My  Lord Rain is kind of like that.

"Alright, my lords if you have something to say better say it now. And you don't have to worry about me retaliating because this will be your only chance to react to the news. After you get it all out of your system you better accept that I will be going nowhere because if you don't. Well, they didn't call "The Slayer" for nothing." Rain said while he was holding onto the hilt of his sword.

"Finding your Bloodmate is a blessing, a gift given by First Blood Queen, the first vampire, to us. Denying or refusing the union is blasphemy to all we hold sacred," said Lord  Lanza.

"And besides with the infamous "The Slayer" as our Queen's consort, nobody would look down on Her Majesty. She will be most revered." Lord Banthus added.

"It doesn't matter to me who it is as long as he makes our Queen happy and protected then I am happy. Your Aunt will be thrilled when she hears about this." Lord Dragos said while he leaned back with a smirk.

I smiled, happy that they did not object to it. I reached for Rain's shoulder and as always his touch gives me warmth. This feeling is not something that I can describe but I just know he will keep me safe.

"Thank you, gentlemen. So before we proceed." I looked over to the side and found Odessa and she immediately came over carrying a box in her arms. When she opened the box inside rests a signet ring that has the coat of arms of my house surrounded by blood-red rubies. I took the ring out and presented it to Rain.

"This ring has been passed down in my family. It is always worn by the consorts of the previous Blood Queens. And now it is yours. As a sign that you are my consort. If anything happens to me you have the power to lead our people to prosperity." I said much to the shock of the council.

That is right Blood Consorts rarely take the role of a leader in the kingdom it is because almost all Blood Consorts never survive without their Blood Queens. Most vampires don't survive once they lose their Bloodmates. The pain of losing their Bloodmates could drive vampires insane and they choose death to escape it.

Rain looked at me with his stoic face and did not say anything. With his back to the audience, they could not see the turmoil and anger in his eyes at my words. Oh dear, we might have a talk after this. I feel like Rain would not want to discuss our feelings in front of everybody. With a squeeze of my hands, he walked down the Dias and left the council room. Nobody stopped him from leaving and only Alistair left after him which I know he would.

"Alright gentlemen, let's get back to business." I went back to my throne and went on to start the meeting.

**********

A few hours later Rain found me in the castle gardens. I did not turn around to face him but I knew that he was there, I would always feel him and he will always feel me.

"You are angry at me," I said when I could no longer bear his silence. "Why?"

"I do not like the responsibility of leading the very same race that I used to kill when I was a human," he replied.

"Is that all?"

"And I do not like the thought of your death. We have been apart for 10 years but we still manage to find ourselves back together but your death..." he clenched his fist too tight. "I just cannot imagine life without you now that I know you are my Bloodmate."

I felt touched by his words so turned around and approached him and he automatically knelt in front of me so I could look him in the eye.

"You should not worry that anything will happen to me"

"Let me remind you that you were imprisoned and tortured for 10 years!" Rain said.

"And you came and rescued me. I have great trust that whatever will happen you will always be there to save me Rain. And I promise that I will make sure that nothing will happen to me." I said to him.

"You better keep your promise because I will promise that I will always find you, Aleah. till the ends of the earth." Rain vowed. And at last, all is right in my world.
