Sapnap's was fuming (almost literally) on the other side of the cell. Dream couldn't blame him. He, too, was deeply angered by recent events. Even worse was the fact that the people in the kingdom somehow had found a way to minizine their abilities to channel the elements.
Dream and Sapnap had tried for hours to break loose from the chains but achieved nothing but more distress. During their little escape trial, the third prisoner constantly sat with his head bent and didn't say a word. Sapnap suggested that he was sleeping, but Dream didn't think so.
Sapnap sighed deeply. "George that little fucker." He murmured.
Rage shot through Dream's body. How simply everyone had fallen for the brunette's charm. Even Philza who was known for reading people's intentions.
""The forest never makes a mistake"" Dream cited sarcastically.
The ravenette scoffed. "Clearly Philza was wrong as it let the crown prince from hell pass by. And now he knows all the secrets. He's probably ordering an attack right now and I bet his arrogant ass will be delighted when everyone dies."
Dream bit down on his cheek. If he hated the brunette in the beginning, it didn't even compare to now. "I'm gonna kill him. Even if I die in the process, I'll make sure he never sees sunlight again." Dream spat poisonously.
That comment caused the third prisoner to snap his head up. Both Dream and Sapnap jumped at the sudden action. Bruises trailed all over his body along with a few minor cuts. The man had long, stripy brown hair that was covered in dust and dried blood. His eyes were grey and Dream knew that he probably was a kind person. However, the glare he sent Dream and Sapnap was far from kind.
"You two might be in a prison cell where other people can't here you talk. But I'll not stand for you slandering Prince George's name in my presence." The man was raspy and tired from the inhumane treatment, yet his words were firm and made both Dream and Sapnap fall quiet.
"You're letting your feelings cloud your judgment. The prince did the only reasonable choice. One that will come to cost him, but a choice that will ensure the well-being for both people inside and outside the kingdom."
Dream's mouth fell agape. How could this person defend George clear betrayal and claim that him and Sapnap were the unreasonable ones?
Tiny flames covered the tip of Sapnap's fingertips. "That traitor fled his own kingdom, was welcomed into our home, lied about his identity and learned all our hidden secrets." Sapnap sneered aggressively.
The man gave the ravenette an unimpressed look. "The prince was seconds away from being slaughtered by his younger brother. I specifically told him to run to the woods, aware that it'd be the only safe place for him, and I demanded him to keep his identity hidden."
"He could've told us the truth." Dream countered.
"Oh could he now? And you wouldn't have killed him on the spot?" The man bit back harshly.
Both Dream and Sapnap fell quiet. Knowing that this mysterious man was right. Yet Dream couldn't forget George for toying with his emotions, knowing that his true identity would change everything.
The man sighed and leaned his head against the wall. "You boys must understand that this is bigger than some personal vendetta. I've known George since he was a child. That guy dreaded his coronation more than anything, convinced that he lacked necessary abilities to lead a nation."
Much like when you find the missing puzzle piece, the bigger picture cleared in Dream's head.
"What's your name again?" Dream mumbled.
