Days turned into weeks, weeks to months and months to years.
Philza became the democratically elected ruler of a kingdom that vastly differed from its precursor. Some people from the old kingdom chose to stay while others fled to God knows were.
George's youngest brother, Toby– or more commonly known as Tubbo – was one of the few people that gladly left the castle and joined their little group afterwards. Despite him being a lot different than George, Dream couldn't hinder himself from being reminded of George every time he spotted Tubbo.
Time supposedly heals every wound. But much like the death of his sister, Dream's heart never fully mended from losing George. What hurt even more was when Wilbur one day confirmed Sapnap's claims that the leather-bond book that foretold George's existence also predicted his death.
Your end will be their beginning. The quote continued to haunt Dream for years
With permission from Philza, Dream got to unleash some built up rage and sorrow by tearing down the castle and burying it below ground.
Sapnap tried for years to get Dream to seek out a new partner, and Dream gave it a few tries before realizing that no matter how much time that passed, his heart could never love someone the way it loved George.
In the end he did find some enjoyment in the cards he'd been given, but George never left his mind completely. He often caught himself back at the beach, secretly wishing for George to appear from the water. But he never did.
Never again.
Sometimes he'd be joined by Sapnap and even Karl and Quackity would come and sit by his side.
As there was no longer a constant battle going on, there's no need for secret missions anymore. So, Dream eventually created a farm were his ability to manipulate the crops quickly made the farm one of the most important sources for food in the kingdom. The new life certainly lacked the excitement that his previous one had contained. He even found himself reading a few of the million stupid books that George used to love so much. Most of them just bored him to death, but at least it gave him a sense that George still remained a part of his life. To make sure not to completely waste his life, like he promised he wouldn't, Dream would go on a few trips now and then. Experience the wonders that the world provided.
Yet nothing he did could fully fill the empty feeling in his heart.
Sapnap and Karl moved into a house nearby his farm. Sapnap agreed that the new situation definitely lacked some excitement. Occasionally, Sapnap would tag along on one of Dream's journeys. The ravenette also found a good, non-violent, use for his ability and began working as a blacksmith combined with some occasional glasswork. Dream once received a beautifully crafted wave made from glass as a memorial piece.
As time passed, the village grew. Quackity even opened a successful casino called Las Nevadas that quickly became a place that Dream and his friends often hung out at. Their friendship became the most important part of Dream's life. Without them he knew that he would never have made it through the roughest parts of life. So, for that he was forever grateful.
Death. Something that most people dread their entire life. But nothing last forever.
Sapnap was the first to leave them quickly followed by Karl. Dream had read somewhere that partners had a tendency to die not far apart. Then it was Quackity's turn. None of them died in a horrible way, yet everyone that left made Dream more and more isolated within himself.
When all his friends had passed. Dream eventually dared to revisit the cave in hope of being reminded of all the good times that life had offered them. As he got to the lagoon that he once pushed George in, he recalled the room on the other side; the room with the engravings and where him and George had shared their first kiss.
Time seemed to have stopped in there as he broke through the stone wall. The triangular carving looked almost identically.
Almost.
Only one of the three triangles still shone: The one displaying the symbol for earth– his triangle.
Then one day, Dream found himself sitting on that goddamm beach admiring the sunset. Loneliness haunted him every waken hour.
But this day was different. Small waves crashed against the shore as Dream watched yet another day come to an end. By that time, Dream had reached the ripe age of 70 years but was despite the old age in good shape.
Or so he thought.
Out of nowhere heard an unfamiliar voice in his head telling him to venture into the sea. He prepared himself for the cold water but found that it was a lot warmer than it should be.
A strong light blinded him, and he rose his arms to protect his eyes. However, when his eyes adjusted to the light, he saw that his arms had returned to their previously youthful state. Shock overtook his body as he got a glimpse of his reflection in the water. It was as if his body aged 50 years backwards.
"What the hell." He muttered.
Suddenly he felt a slender hand grab his. He recognized it straight away and his eyes shot up and met the angel himself grinning widely at him.
Dream refused to breathe, afraid that this was all a dream. George looked the same as the day 50 years ago on the beach. Back then he recalled how he couldn't feel George touch. But as the brunette cupped his jaw, he felt every. single. thing.
Dream didn't care that tears stained his entire face. George was here. His George. His wonderful, gorgeous, charming George was standing right in front of him in the middle of the sea.
"Welcome home, Dream." George whispered lovingly.
Dream wasted no time and scooped George up bridal style and kissed him with every ounce of emotion he'd tried to suppress for half a century. Even George was tearing up while wrapping his arms around Dream's neck.
Even as Dream let him down, George continued to hug him tightly. "Not a day passed by where I didn't think of you." Dream stated confidently.
"Stubborn as always." George responded fondly.
Dream ran his hand through the dark locks. "I'm dying, aren't I?"
George nodded and grabbed his hand. "Your earthly journey is over."
Dream thought that he'd fear death but not an ounce of fear laced his mind. He squeezed George's hand gently. "With you by my side, I don't care what happens."
George gave him a lobsided smile before standing on his tippytoes and placing a kiss on Dream's cheek. "I promised you, remember? Our souls refuses to be us apart for long."
Dream didn't respond but instead kissed George gently on his forehead.
"Time to say let go now. You wouldn't want to leave the others waiting for too long." George commented excitedly.
"The others?" Dream responded.
"Sapnap, Karl and Quackity. They're waiting for us."
And with that said. Dream felt his anchor to the mortal side disappearing. It was as if an extremely heavy backpack had been removed from his back.
Hand in hand with George, the two lovers walked farther out into the water, into the bright light.
Reunited once more, and this time it meant forever.
Finito.
A/N: And so the story comes to an end :) I've been wanting to write a fantasy AU for a while now and this was the outcome which I hope was at least somewhat enjoyable <3
If you've made it this far I want you to know how much it means to me!! <3 Writing is one of my favorite creative outlets atm. Even if not a single soul would read my books, I'd probably still be writing, but every vote, comment or other form of interaction make my day a little brighter <333
So, thank all of you! : D
Now, we might just be anonymous strangers on the internet, but make sure to take care of yourself and have a lovely life! <3
