Light beamed into the hut and woke George up from his peaceful slumber. An arm was wrapped around his waist and though he was warm and comfy, panic slowly overtook in his mind.
Yesterday came rushing back. How they were heading back to the kingdom in a few hours, how George had concluded that him and Dream never could be anything more than friends. Yet here they were, snuggled up in bed together.
He facepalmed internally while carefully crawling out of the blonde's grip. He desperately searched for any form of distraction and decided on getting dressed in his old clothes, figuring that they would probably be leaving early. He physically cringed as he put on the black pants and shirt. He then completed the look with the cape and attached his sword to his hip. Only thing missing was a mask for the lower half of his face and he would fit right back in amongst the citizens.
Lots of thoughts clouded his mind and he sat down on his bed. Elbows placed on his knees with his chin resting in his palm. Deep even breaths told him that Dream remained asleep, he wanted to stay until the blonde had awoken, however something urged him to leave.
With care he left the hut and ventured out. A pleasant silence lingered as he made his way to the tree in the middle. The same tree that Dream once pushed him into. Bleak beams of light tattled that it was yet early. He sat down in front of the magnificent tree. Its branches reached every corner of the cave. How it could survive down here was baffling and it wasn't only surviving, it was thriving.
Its symbolization struck as he inspected the creation. Water purled around the roots and fire – or rather – sunlight, hit the crown. Together it formed an unison of three: Him, Dream and Sapnap. His finger traced the spiral pattern in the cave, the triskele. Maybe everything that had happened had been for a reason. After all, Dream did claim that nature always found a way to ensure balance. If that was the case, then maybe was it time for George to allow himself to follow the stream, the premade path already laid out in front of him. A warm breeze ruffled his hair, almost like an indication that he was onto something.
Suddenly he heard the same voice that had guided him as he ran from the castle. "Your end will be their beginning." And like a switch in his brain, he felt the change. It was as if a blockade had been removed. His gaze shot up to the tree crown that shortly after caught fire, yet the leaves stayed perfectly intact. With a wide smile he rose his hands and slowly trailed them back down while mimicking rain with his fingers and surely enough, soon were thousands of raindrops falling from the sky but never once were the flames disrupted by the water. Raindrops landed on the ground and soaked through the cracks in the stone. Something made him to close his eyes and let his palms rest against the hard stone. A second of darkness before a crystal-clear picture of all the hidden tunnels and secret rooms appeared, like if someone would've x-rayed the cave.
"Your end will be their beginning." He mumbled before opening his eyes and pressed his hands flat together and all the rain and fire disappeared immediately.
"You sneaky motherfucker." Sapnap's amused comment causing George to stir around seeing both Sapnap and Dream standing behind him dressed in similar fashion to him. Both guys glanced at him with wide eyes.
"So, you've gone from barely being able to light candles to making a tree into a torch?" Sapnap asked skeptically.
George rose and shrugged. "I don't know what happened, but it was as if something snapped in my brain."
The ravenette exchanged a glance with Dream before clasping his hand together. "Well, excellent timing. Speaking of which, it's time we get going."
"About that, are we really just going to barge into the kingdom?" George asked.
