H,
"Okay, neither of us has an idea of where he could be."
Niall and Louis shook their heads no. I was beginning to worry about Zayn's disappearance. We hadn't spoken since our last time together. Three weeks of silence on both our ends. I didn't know what to say. I loved every second of our night; it was still fresh in my memory, but I didn't know where we were.
I was torn. I wanted Zayn for myself, all of him. Every inch of him. But I couldn't be a second choice again. I would not put my heart on the line just to suffer. I couldn't fall into that pattern again. So, I left. For my sake. And I had chosen silence. I needed to keep a distance from him. I needed to choose myself first and follow Liam's advice - surprisingly. Follow my head, then my heart.
During these three weeks, Zayn never left my mind or my heart. Deep down during these three weeks of silence, I was hoping for a big romantic gesture. Something dramatic. Meaningful on his end.
Call me stupid, I can take it.
Call me naive, sure. I don't mind.
I was secretly praying that he'd choose me, easily.
However, his disappearance and silence caught me off, guard. I honestly thought he had gone back to Liam and tried to fix things between them as soon as he saw that I hadn't stayed. When I shared that I didn't trust him. I feared I had driven Zayn right into Liam's arms.
No.
He wasn't with Liam either and that worried me. His isolation worried me because it meant he was thinking and taking whatever following step seriously. He wasn't talking to me. He wasn't talking to Liam. Nor our friends. It had happened before and when he did, he went back to Liam.
Was I about to lose him again?
He was away from me. I sensed panic forming within me.
"I'm beginning to worry."
"Don't worry," Louis replied, sitting at his desk. "He's fine. Trust me."
"Why didn't he tell none of us where he was going?"
"I don't know, Haz. Zayn has his ideas and plan. I'm not going to mess with that. Trust me. He's fine." Louis connected the phone back to the line. He placed the speaker against his ear. "Well, at least the phone is working."
"I feel like I'm being punished..." I mumbled.
"It's not about you," Louis replied. "He just needs time to figure out what to do next. Separation is not easy."
"Liam seemed rather upset," Niall responded, sitting next to me on the sofa. "I don't like it when he's like this."
"Who does?" Louis asked. "He has the grace and sensibility of a bull in a glass shop. You know, I was this close to telling him about Zayn's secret flat, but I didn't. I know Zayn cherishes that flat with his life and I know that is his spot. And, if he is there, I don't think he'd like Liam popping up unexpectedly."
"It's possible." I continued. "I mean, he had a mattress and some food. He might be there."
Niall and Louis shared a look. Then, Niall turned his body to me.
"How did you know about the flat?"
I needed to bite my tongue more and not be so quick to share information. My face spoke faster than I intended.
Louis gasped:
"Holy shit," He let out with a whisper. "They slept together."
A block of silence came between us, where I sensed I was being judged by my friends, but not in an evil way - they were curious.
