Four days later
"This is amazing," Jordan commented standing next to me. The gallery was decorated with her amazing paintings. Gigantic murals with details of faces, flowers, nature and animals.
Amazing work.
Jordan stood next to me dressed the most casually possible: dark overalls, a flannel shirt and her hair tight up in a ponytail. She asked me if there was a dress code and I told her, yes...for everyone but her. I wanted her to be comfortable and times like this could be stressful. We want the artist to be comfortable and enjoy the celebration of their work. If they're nervous or focusing on selling or networking, the love for what they created can easily fade.
Sometimes, they might even grow to hate the entire presentation because of this experience alone.
Jordan's eyes glided across our room, seeing a full house full of people who came to enjoy her art in a friendly cocktail afternoon.
"This is...I'm just...Oh my God."
"Congratulations," I responded nudging her lightly. Jordan smiled at me wide. "You're a success."
"I feel so underdressed. Everyone is in suits and heels."
"The world of art likes to show off. Unnecessarily sometimes." I responded, pocketing my hands. I had chosen a grey suit, with a white shirt opened down. Usually, I'd hide my tattoos, but this was a presentation and I felt it called for. "You're fine. That way you can be easily identifiable in the crowd."
Jordan smiled again. "What are the yellow dots next to the name of the paintings?"
Under every painting was the identification of the piece and next to it a small yellow dot, that Maddie had glued there earlier. Looking at the entire room, half of the paintings were identified with yellow dots.
I leaned over to the young artist.
"Yellow dots means they were bought."
Jordan gasped with wide eyes. Then, covered her mouth which had also fallen open.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes," I responded. "People can buy the art if they want to."
"Wait..." Jordan snapped and panic showed on her face. "How do we get the painting to them? Do I have to ship it? How much does that cost?"
I placed one hand on her shoulder and looked her in the eye.
"Don't worry about it. The paintings will remain here for the duration of the exhibit and then, we'll ship them to the new owners or they can be lent to us or other exhibitions."
Jordan looked again at the crowd roaming our halls and smiled. I was happy to propose to her this level of happiness for a starting artist.
"Okay," Jordan responded. "Okay. What do I do now? Do I have to talk to someone?
"It's customary for the artist to talk to the people who bought the paintings. But don't worry, I got you covered. Maddie?" One of my assistants was approaching us and I called her over. Maddie wore a black jumpsuit with a golden necklace and was all smiles.
"Yes?"
"Can you help Jordan identify the buyers and introduce her? She's a bit nervous."
Maddie looked at Jordan and smiled.
"Of course," My assistant replied. "I'll tell ya all about it. Come on,"
Maddie looped her arm around the artist and together they roamed away from me.
