Z,
a few days later
"Alright," Harry declared storming into the bathroom and making me jump in fright. He looked particularly beautiful today, with his rebellious strands of hair framing his face. "This is a bad idea and here's why-"
I watched him from the shower through the see-through glass. The water poured down on me, covering me from head to toe. Steam rose around me, surrounding Harry in a light fog. I knew he was about to into one of his theories, unable to let the issue go.
"Baby, I'm showering-"
"Just hear me out-"
"You couldn't wait?"
"You've been in here forever. It wouldn't make a difference. Hear me out." Harry demanded with his hands held out in front of him. I loved how his mind twisted and turned while trying to formulate a sentence. He wore a t-shirt with a kiwi on it and some old joggers, who had seen too many washes. I turned off the water, grabbed the shower gel, and poured it on the luffa. "You meeting Liam to talk is a bad idea. Why? Because it's an opportunity to get you alone."
I rubbed the luffa on my body, listening (again) to his premise.
"Ground-breaking, Harry."
"I'm serious!"
"I thought you trusted me."
"I trust you. I don't trust Liam."
"Oh, so it's the same shit, but with a different name?"
"Stop, okay?"
My lover had been talking about this issue nonstop, coming up with different theories and conjectures about my meeting Liam for one last time. Harry insisted that it was a bad idea, and even though I agreed to a point, I just wanted this to be settled as fast as possible.
If this was the only thing separating me from the first hearing and moving on with the divorce process, then by all means let's get it done now.
Since our last encounter, where I gave my speech and declared my love for Harry out in the open, Liam had been quiet again. I had spoken to Cheryl who pointed this day out and we settled on it. Liam and I would sit down one last time to resolve the issues about dividing assets and other items of our divorce. It was a methodical thing.
Who would get the house, the cars, the Centres - we would discuss all of that. Just us, because in the end, we were the ones getting a divorce. We are both adults and we needed to face this separation as such. The faster we get it, the better. I wanted to reach a point of complete calm and move on to the next phase in my future.
I explained this to Harry, time and time again. He hadn't stopped with his forming theories and the lingering fear that Liam would hypnotize me back. I would listen to him, hearing his concerns and doing my best to appease him. Assure him. Calm him. I wanted him to understand that it was nothing but a conversation. A simple conversation between two adults who once shared things and now would no longer.
"I'm sorry," I responded with softness. "Tell me, baby."
"Any communications should be done via your teams. You shouldn't meet him. You don't have to talk to him - you owe him nothing."
"Liam and I had a life together. We were together for a long time and there are a lot of aspects involved in our relationship. It's one last cordial act between us."
"It's unnecessary, honey." Harry insisted again. "What about Italy? I have everything ready; we should just go and leave your teams to work with it."
