Stede stood on the bow of his ship, eyes wide. "What is it?"
He and Ed stared into the distance, where smoke clouded the sky in a large funnel upwards. In the dim light from the gray clouds above, they could see red and orange dancing across the water ahead. Stede glanced over at Ed with worry.
"Should we go near it?" Stede asked.
Ed scanned the horizon. "I don't see anything nearby."
"What if we ask Bonny?" Stede asked.
Ed nodded. "Yeah. Good idea."
Ed turned and crossed the ship, climbing the stairs to the stern. He stood at the railing of their boat and grabbed a rope that hung from above. He tugged at it for a moment before stepping onto the railing and kicking himself forward. Ed swung through the air wildly for a moment before his feet hit wood and a hand landed on his shirt, holding him up.
He looked down with a grin; Mary stood in front of him, a smirk on their lips. Mary held a hand out to him. He took it, chuckling softly as they pulled him onto the ship. He glanced over his shoulder and saw Stede debating using the rope. He looked at Ed for a moment and then shrugged. Ed turned to Mary.
"Did you guys see the water up there?" Ed asked.
"Looks like it's a ship!" Bonny said from the bow.
Ed approached her slowly. She held out a magnifying glass. Ed took it and looked at the wreckage ahead of them. It did look like a ship. As a matter of fact, he recognized it.
"Shit," Ed said quietly. "That's Vane's ship. He took it from Hornigold ages ago."
Bonny glanced at him, impressed. "Good eye."
"And look... you can see a bit of the flag. You can see the dagger."
Bonny frowned deeply. "That's not good."
Ed looked over at her, lowering the magnifying glass. "No. It isn't. Actually, I'd even say it's bad."
Bonny held her hand out. Ed gave the magnifying glass back to her. She looked into it and sighed. After a moment, she leaned forward.
"Get closer to that ship!" Bonny shouted. "There's still people in the water."
"Are you sure you want to pick them up?" Mary asked quietly. "If they're part of Vane's crew..."
Bonny glanced over at them and shrugged. "I can handle them. Unless you want Bellamy to take them."
Mary hummed. "Bellamy is too kind."
"We'll pick them up, then. At least they'll owe us."
Ed watched Bonny begin to shout orders at her crew. He stared at the burning ship ahead of them with a frown.
"Can you go tell Bellamy?" Bonny asked Mary.
Ed glanced back at his own ship. Stede waved half-heartedly. Ed climbed up to the stern and frowned slightly, looking for a rope to swing across with. From the Revenge, Jim swung a rope to him. He caught it with a grin and held onto it tightly, climbing onto the railing of the William. Ed leapt off of the side and swung across, grabbing the railing of his ship with his feet. Jim leaned over, beginning to pull him up onto the ship. Stede hurried over and helped.
"That's Vane's ship," Ed said. "Charles Vane."
Stede frowned deeply. "Oh."
"I suppose we'll get a story from the rest of his crew that survived. Bonny's taking them in," Ed said.
