Today it's doubles pair 2 up first. I personally can both believe and disbelieve who they chose to work together. Sanada and Atobe, the two who are trying to prove that they're better than the other so they can become Tezuka's number one rival. I'm pretty sure Tezuka doesn't care though. I got first row seats in the bleachers with the other Japanese schools and Seigaku members that weren't picked.
"So, who do you think is going to win?" I mused as I leaned with my back against Ryoga's shoulder.
"Atobe and Sanada," Ryoga said.
I frowned. "True. I think they'll win as well. They might hate each other, but in the end with both of their skills, they can pull it off, start Japan with a good streak rather than a pessimistic loss. Right?"
"Hai," Ryoga said, nodding as we turned our attention to the game ahead of us. Atobe and Sanada. An unlikely pair, but one that'll work well together. I'll give the coaches that at least. The one from Hyotei, he looks soooo mean and a bit full of himself as well. I'm glad I didn't go with him.
I lifted my hand into the air and then cupped my other hand around my mouth.
"Oi! Atobe, Sanada, start us off with a win!" I shouted loudly, they turned to me and nodded, scowling for a second at each other. Ryoga pouted.
"Jealous?" I smirked.
"No," Ryoga muttered. I laughed and punched him lightly in the shoulder, facing the court as the Umpire climbed into his seat.
"One set match! Atobe-Sanada to serve!"
I leaned backwards in my seat, deciding to wait until things got slightly more interesting. They were studying and observing what they were doing and how they were playing. The good thing is that both Atobe and Sanada haven't used any of their special moves yet so the Americans don't have much to study or get info off of.
We easily took the first two games for ourselves. The America team seems as though they let us take the lead just to scope us out and get a feel for how Sanada and Atobe play.
But if they let us get too far ahead, they have less of a chance to make a come back. Sanada pulled out his special move during the third game, winning it for us by using his Invisible Swing.
The fourth game Atobe showed the Rondo Towards Destruction, making another easy win for our team as the others seemed surprised at his play. They'll start to get serious now, no doubt about it. Not when they think they've seen most or all of our moves.
Cassidy pulled out his special move during the beginning of the fifth game, hitting an ace serve, the ball easily sliding past Sanada and Atobe. 15-love. I glanced around as I heard whispers from our spectator side. A fluke they were saying. I don't think that was a fluke. Not when it was that powerful and executed like that.
As soon as I heard a ball hit a racket, my attention snapped back to the court, barely seeing Lee, Cassidy's partner, get another point for their team. They seem to work well together, unlike Sanada and Atobe since they both have things the other gets in the way of. Another move from Atobe was made, Cassidy returned it with a smirk on his face as the ball left the ground steaming from the strength and power. I looked up at the replay and my eyes widened. Cassidy had jumped up when Atobe did and slammed it back down before he could land and have the chance to return the ball.
I scowled to myself as I saw how confident the American team was looking, Atobe trying again for the Rondo Towards Destruction. I clucked my tongue with annoyance. 4-1.
The next game was a perfect Ace from Cassidy. His racket was swinging strangely while he hit the serve, but it was done perfectly. It almost looked like he was swinging a lasso at the ball.
After they gained their first win, the momentum in the game seemed to swing suddenly as they scored point after point, each one an easy win before it hit 4-2. He kept looking to the bleachers as if he had someone he wanted to impress or win over. Or some sort of reason he needed to win, and not just for fame or championship.
Game after a rally started between Lee and Sanada, Sanada eventually losing the rally and giving up a point.
If they keep this up, at this pace we'll lose. Not unless the Sanada and Atobe can start to work together and give some more effort, more power, and more strength. We need to win this game.
You could hear the two of them arguing during the game over whose ball is who before the Americans took their fourth game, tying us.
In the beginning of the next game, Atobe pulled out an ace serve, bending his body halfway back before slamming the ball with his racket, the ball itself scorching the ground as it floated barely above the ground. He called it a Tannshauser Serve. A perfect ace serve. I leaned forwards in my seat. This game is getting interesting.
The game continued like a dance, a point here, a point there.
Atobe jumped into the air, smashing it towards the other side where Cassidy intercepted it, easily returning it straight to Sanada in the back of the courts. Sanada racket swung, the ball flying straight across the court and slamming into Cassidy's racket handle, causing it to fly out of his grip, and the ball to return to them, Atobe jumping back into the air and smashing it, taking the last game, the seventh game, for the Japan team.
"Be awed by our prowress," I heard Atobe say when he landed back on his feet. "I will call it 'Tango Towards Destruction'," Atobe said, the move leaving the Americans staring at them stupidly.
7-5
The final score of the match, Japan winning thanks to the last move. After they left the courts, I heard that the two of them, Atobe and Sanada, had run into each other at a music concert. A latin one to be specific. I suppose that's what made them able to be so in sync with each other for the last part of the match and enabled them to do the "Tango Towards Destruction".
While the Japan team celebrated their first win and prepared for their second game, I hung out with Ryoga outside of the stadium area.
"Leaving already?" Ryoga asked, leaning against a wall with his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah. Sorry. I'd stay if I could to be with you and watch us win the US Open, but I've still got school to attend back in America. Maybe I'll come back to watch the last match, maybe I won't. But I will be watching it live at home," I nodded, sighing. Earlier that day before the match had taken place, I had recieved a phone call from my parents. School was about to start back up for me, and they said I couldn't skip a year of highschool. So they already sent the ticket to me via phone and my flight starts in another hour and a half. My bags are all packed, and I'm ready to leave. I said my goodbyes to the team, swiftly and quickly.Several years later, when I returned to Japan, I reunited with Ryoga again. Each year in America had been somewhat lonesome, but I was still constantly in contact with the Echizens even on different continents.
When I got there, to the Echizen household, Ryoga took me out and proposed to me. I know I said yes even without using my voice, and I know he understood me, because three months later, we were newly wed and ready to dominate the world of our own, and the tennis world.A/N
Yeah, I haven't updated for like, six months. This is the last part since I doubt I'll get around to finishing the show any time soon with the amount of shows I start every week and reading webtoons. Plus my mom's banning me from electronics next week 'cause Summer starts for me.
I haven't finished the US Open episodes yet, so that's why I cut the story off here.
Thank you for sticking to this story this long and voting.
