I totally forgot about Sanada. ☹️Y/n's P.O.V
So I won the match against Kirihara. But that wasn't the end of the tournament. Ryoma still had to go against Sanada, Rikkaidai's vice captain. He would've had to go against their actual captain Yukimura, but I hear he's hurt in the hospital and has to undergo surgery to play tennis again. Sanada was known for his speed and strength on the RIkkaidai team. I know Ryoma was practicing returning the two handed Haydoukyuu that Taka-san had showed him. They had both been practicing to return and use it specifically for this tournament. Ryoma needed to return it or he'd lose this match.
"One set match! Echizen-Sanada. Echizen to serve," the umpire called out. I leaned forwards, perched on the edge of my seat.
Ryoma served his twist and Sanada easily returned it, no surprise there. They rallied for a few minutes before the ball slipped past Ryoma and he started losing multiple games in a row. His eyes were turning red and Eiji was complaining about how much his eyes hurt from trying to track down the ball.
In the second half of the game, Ryoma closed his eyes and played like that for a few minutes until Sanada pulled out another ace card. An invisible serve. Ryoma didn't even move, he never heard it.
"Game to Sanada! 4-1!" the umpire shouted, startling Ryoma. His eyes opened and he stared at the ball behind him with shock clear in his eyes. Now he was forced to keep his eyes open, to keep them alert or he'd miss it again. Sanada pulled out another ace. An invisible swing, Ryoma couldn't see when the racket hit the ball. I've got great vision, I can see why it hurts his eyes a lot. Ryoma managed to return the invisible swing after losing nearly an entire game. He then returned a shot that would force Sanada to hit a lob. Ryoma went running after the ball, jumping into the air, twisting halfway around and then slamming it down.
"Cyclone! Smash!" Ryoma shouted, dropping back onto the ground as the ball went whizzing past Sanada. Ryoma took back three games before he started to get tired. It was tied at 5-5. Sanada scored 6-5 and then Ryoma scored 6-6. The next game will either win it all for us, or lose it all for use.
They played the last game for a long time, neither of them giving up, each refusing to lose. Sanada because he made a promise to Yukimura, and Ryoma because he wanted to win. Honestly, Sanada's got a better reason, but Ryoma's on our team so we have to root for him.
"Drinks! Come get your drinks!" a man called, drawing my attention. I turned and spotted Nanjiro with an iced cooler handing out drinks to everyone. I walked up to him and spotted Nanako as well, Ryoma's cousin.
"Nanjiro, I guess you wanted to watch your son play," I said as I approached him.
"I did not!" Nanjiro replied loudly. "I'm not Nanjiro! Goodbye, random person I've only just met right now!" He then ran away and I laughed to myself before returning with the other regulars.
I laughed again and then turned my attention and focus on the match at hand. Ryoma was in the lead, one more point and he'd win it all. He hit one more return and it whipped past Sanada.
"Game and set to Echizen!" the umpire yelled. We all lined up at the net and then took turns shaking hands with Sanada. He was the only player on his team still at the game. Everyone else had gone to wait at the hospital for news of Yukimura's surgery. I've never seen or met him before but i hope he can play tennis again.
"Good game," I said happily as I shook Sanada's hand. "Oi, and I hope Yukimura-senpai gets better."
"Hai, of course," Sanada replied coldly.
"You remind me of Tezuka. except your too cold," I frowned before walking away towards the vending machines. I pulled out a Ponta and then popped the lid, tilting my head back as I drank it all.
I felt a brush of wind and turned to see Sanada jogging towards the hospital. I frowned and then shrugged and finished my Ponta, jogging back towards the regular.
"You did it, Chibi!" Eiji was shouting as he and Momo jumped Ryoma. I laughed and then stood back away from the hug massacre with Ryoga.
"He really did it," Ryoga mused.
"Well, he's an Echizen, what did you expect?" I teased. I laughed and then walked away, relaxing under a tree before I accidentally dozed off.
