Taylor's Point of View
It had been two weeks since I started working at Miller Tech and it'd been amazing. I had only worked at the office so far but I was not complaining. It's not that I didn't want to do the personal part of a personal assistant but it was weird since it was Chris.
Sophia had yet to return to her annoying self but I knew that it was only a matter of time. She didn't make eye contact with me anymore and I knew Chris and Matty had noticed. Matty only stayed in our apartment for a week before finding a place of his own. I loved the man but I was so happy to have our space back.
It was Sunday night and Mads had taken over the dining room table with her presentation for a new school district to change their food plans for their high schools. I plopped myself on the couch with my kindle, a cozy blanket and a glass of wine about an hour ago and didn't plan on moving until I was too tired to keep my eyes open. That was my plan anyway until my phone rang.
I heaved out a sigh before answering, "Yes Chris Cross?"
Chris' voice was full of tension, "Tot, where are the Murphy files?"
"In the filing cabinet under Murphy. Why?" I was annoyed he was calling me for work on a Sunday but I guess that was the personal stuff finally starting. Not to mention he did sound stressed so I didn't want to add to it by complaining about the call.
"No shit Taylor," he was yelling now, "don't you think I've looked there?"
"Okay first of all," I started, no longer caring about his mood, "I don't care that you're in boss mode right now, don't yell at me. Second, if it's that big of a deal why don't you just look at the electronic files? And finally, why can't this wait until tomorrow?"
I could hear him take a deep breath but all it did was lower the volume of his voice, he was still clearly mad, "Because if this waits until tomorrow I might not have a business to worry about. Get to the office. I need your help."
I rolled my eyes even though he couldn't see it, "Yes, Mr. Miller, I can be there in twenty minutes."
"Tot, I didn't.." his voice was a lot calmer now but I still hung up the phone before he could say anything else.
I didn't bother changing into something professional to go into the office. It wasn't like Chris hadn't seen me in joggers and a t-shirt before. I just grabbed a pair of sneakers and my purse. I told Mads where I was going and all she could really do was roll her eyes and joke about how he's never been incompetent before. I laughed, agreeing with her and headed out to catch a cab. Since it wasn't a normal work day I had to go up through the employee parking garage and use a special code to get up to our floor.
Walking down the hallway to our offices I could hear things being slammed in Chris' office so I decided to go to mine first. I swear to god if he had destroyed my office I would have been pissed.
I unlocked the glass door and pushed it open to find it was perfectly clean except for a drawer in the filing cabinet being open. I should have known better, I've never known Chris to make a mess. I looked in the drawer and pulled out the Murphy files shaking my head. Men can never find what's in front of their face, I thought to myself as I closed the drawer and walked to the door connected to Chris' office. I didn't even bother knocking, he called me at eight o'clock on a Sunday night, he didn't deserve the respect of knocking right now.
Chris was so wrapped up in being angry about not being able to find the files he didn't even notice me walk in the room. I lightly dropped my purse onto the couch and walked over to his desk. He had his back turned to me frantically typing on his computer. Still annoyed that he yelled at me over the phone I dropped the file onto his desk making a loud slapping sound.
