"Young love tends to be based on nothing but feelings. The couple has not yet faced and overcome a challenge or difficulty together. They are passionate about each other. They think about each other constantly and want to spend all their time"

It was Lydia's birthday — the only exception to my punishment.
Yeah, I know. Shocking. Me, actually obeying a punishment. Truth was, I felt bad for what I did, especially after seeing the condition my mom was in after using magic.
I had no idea why it hit her that hard, but it did. I was still surprised she even did it. And then Isaac told me she'd healed Derek too — which was weird.
My mother hated Derek with everything in her. For a while, I thought she only healed Scott because she felt bad that an innocent kid got caught in Derek's mess. But she helped him too... and it didn't make sense.
I didn't have time to dwell on it, not with school catching up on me. Isaac had been helping a lot, and Lydia too, although she usually stepped aside and let me and Isaac be alone. She even cheered us on — though little did she know it would never work out.
I think I already knew it too. But it was easier to stay in denial about it.
There were too many things in the way, and what was going on with my mom was one of those wake-up calls. If I kept bending the rules like I was, it wouldn't end well, and deep down, I knew it.
I was currently packing my stuff to head to Lydia's. Everyone knew about her party — even my mom. That's probably the only reason she let me go. But something told me this year wouldn't be the same, not with everything happening.
It was also a full moon. Isaac hadn't found his anchor yet, and I doubted he'd show up to the party. I'd invited him anyway. I thought maybe, since everyone would be there, we could blend in. Although now that my mom knew he was a wolf, it would be harder than ever to come back from that.
And if we ever followed through on our plan to take away his bite... she'd know exactly what we did to make it happen.
I headed downstairs with my bag and keys in hand. My mom was in the kitchen. Normally, I wouldn't bother saying anything — she already knew I was leaving — but I wanted to check on her.
Her hands still showed faint dark veins, and I could tell by the fact she was wearing her glasses that she had another headache.
"You about to leave for work?" I asked, making her glance up from her laptop.
"If I can. I'm hoping this tea gets rid of the pain," she muttered, raising her mug to her lips.
"You know... I could fix it—" I stopped myself immediately, knowing it wasn't an option. I shouldn't have even said it. "Why would you use dark magic? You didn't have to."
