"Okay, so basically repeat what happened one more time."

Ava had gathered all the teens in the loft — the same ones Angie had performed that spell on a few nights before. The tension in the room was palpable, thick enough to choke on. Ava didn't understand why Angie thought it was necessary to go through with it, but she needed to know. And so far, their explanation only left a pit sinking deeper in her stomach.

"Mom, you know what this is. It makes complete sense. You know James better than anyone else. And what he did... it's all falling together too perfectly. You know what he raised, and now it's here. Why did he raise it? I don't know. But I did what had to be done — for now."

Ava hated to admit it, but Angie was right. She'd just been in denial.

Because if Angie was right...

Then everything Ava had spent her entire life trying to keep buried was about to come back for them — and this time, she wasn't sure anyone would survive it.

She sighed, glancing toward Derek, her worry carved into every line on her face. She was terrified, but if there was one thing she'd never done in her life, it was back down. And she sure as hell wasn't about to start now.

"After school, I want to test Stiles and Scott. They were the ones affected. So all of you — meet up here after class. And about the girl who knew about this... what's her name again?" Ava asked, causing Angie to exchange a wary look with the others.

She hadn't thought much of Kira knowing what she did — not until now. The timing was too perfect. Too convenient.

"Kira," Angie answered quietly.

Ava's eyes narrowed.

"Keep an eye out. Not too close. If her showing up has a purpose, we don't need to find out what it is yet."

Everyone nodded.

"Guessing that's McCall's job," Tyler piped up. "The girl's got the hots for him."

Every head in the room snapped in his direction.

"Why the hell is he here again?!" Ava shot, voice sharp enough to cut glass.

She'd never liked Tyler. The fact that he was now in the loop wasn't sitting well with her.

"He knows. And he'll keep his mouth shut from now on, won't you, Ty?" Angie spoke up, shooting him a glare that dared him to argue.

He lifted his hands in surrender. "Yeah. Got it."
