Prologue

POV 3rd person

"Hos op Leksa!" (Hurry up Lexa!) Alex shouts as she runs through the forest. The two young girls, both around 6 runs laughing as they head towards the river. "Alex hod op up!" (Alex hold up!) Lexa yells after her laughing as they reach the river. Alex turns and smiles as she lifts her shirt and smiles as she jumps into the river. Lexa laughs and yells, "Yu're crazy!" (you're crazy) Alex swims around and laughs. "Come ona Leksa! yu're supposed kom be the next heda! Yu scared?" (Come on Lexa! You're supposed to be the next commander! You scared?) she says mockingly, daring Lexa to do something. Lexa narrows her eyes and throws her shirt off running and jumps into the river. Both girls laugh as they swim around and splash each other. "Nou forget about me" (Don't forget about me) Alex says after they calm down. Lexa turns to look at her grabbing her best friend's hand. "Ai could nowe forget about yu, Alex gon Triku" (I could never forget about you, Alex of Triku) Lexa says looking Alex in the eyes. "Em's ok Leksa, yu laik na be heda. Ai'll always be by your side" (It's ok lexa, you are going to be commander. I'll always be by your side) Alex says pulling Lexa into a hug. Suddenly lexa goes under the water coming up gasping for air. Alex is laughing as she runs out of the river grabbing her shirt. "Yu're stedaunon Alex!" (you're dead Alex!) Lexa yells as she runs out of the river grabbing her shirt running after Alex. 

Both girls make it back to the Triku village laughing. "Where don yu both been?" (Where have you both been?) Anya asks both girls. They both freeze straitening their spines to their trainer. "Yu beda be getting ready kom bants Leksa" (you should be getting ready to leave Lexa) She says. Lexa bows her head glancing at Alex before she hurries off to her tent. "Yu laik clouding her judgement, Alex. Em ste needed in Polis, no distractions" (You are clouding her judgement, Alex. She is needed in Polis, no distractions.) Anya says her face stoic. Alex stares wide eyed then bows her head. "Ai'm sorry Onya" (I'm sorry Anya) Alex says heartbroken. Anya lifts her chin up, "Yu  laik special Alex. Bilaik marking ona your back. Ai laik doing disha gon your protection seintaim." (You are special Alex. That marking on your back. I am doing this for your protection too.) Anya says and Alex nods. "sha Onya" (yes Ayna) Alex says and walks off to her tent. A few hours later a group of guards gather ready to leave for Polis at first light. Indra and Anya talking with each other as Lexa finishes packing then gets ready for bed. Alex sits in her tent tears in her eyes as she looks into a mirror at her back, Marking of a fire bird, Phoenix. Her right arm with Triku markings down it. She sighs not knowing why she's special and what is so wrong with her that they keep her confined to the village. She has to sneak out, but she's always caught by Anya. She knows Lexa will be Heda soon and she will lose her best friend. She gets up and peaks outside her tent seeing Indra and Anya not paying attention she creeps out and heads into Lexa's tent closing the flaps quietly. 

Alex turns around to see Lexa unbraiding her hair, dressed in her night gown. "Yu beda nou be hir Alex. Yu'll ge in trouble" (You should not be here Alex. You'll get in trouble) Lexa says turning towards her firend. Alex smiles shrugging. "When do ai ever listen kom the rules?" (When do I ever listen to the rules?) Alex says teasingly making Lexa smile. Alex walks up to her friends and reaches for her hair, "Teik me heda" (let me Commander) Alex says unbrainding her hair for her. "Ai laik nou head yet, Alex" (I am not commander yet, Alex) Lexa says with a laugh. Alex hums, "Mebi nou, ba soon. Ai don kom practice gon when ai visit. Otherwise, Onya will don ai head" (Maybe not, but soon. I have to practice for when I visit. Otherwise, Anya will have my head) Alex jokes making both girls laugh. "Ai so wish yu could come Alex. Ai will miss yu Birdie" (I so wish you could come Alex. I will miss you Birdie) Lexa says turning around as Alex is done with her hair. They both smile tearfully and hug each other. "Sucks kom be yu. Yu don kom train hogeda the time" (Sucks to be you. You have to train all the time) Alex jokes shoving lexa lightly making her laugh. "Ste? Beja...." (stay? Please....) Lexa begs and Alex smiles. From times before Alex goes to Lexa's table grabbing her spare night gown. She changes and slips into bed with her best friend as they talk about anything and everything until sleep takes them. 

The next morning emotions are heavy as the Indra prepares to leave with Lexa to Polis. Alex is by her side helping her pack her horse. "Yu will do great. Teik disha..." (You will do great. Take this...) Alex says handing Lexa a necklace. It was one Alex's mother gave her when she was born. Her mother died during childbirth leaving Anya and Nyko to raise and teacher her. The only thing she has is a necklace of the marking on her back, Phoenix. Lexa looks at Alex in shock. "no, no Alex ai can't..." (No, no Alex I can't...) She tries but Alex stops her by placing the necklace into her pocket. "Ai will always be kom yu" (I will always be with you) She whispers and squeezes her hand. Indra signals that they need to leave making Alex smile lightly and step back as a guard helps Lexa onto her horse. "Leidon" (Goodbye) Lexa mouths as they ride off. Alex takes a breath and turns heading to her tent. A few days later Alex is wondering around the village, Anya, Nyko and some others left that morning leaving Alex to do nothing but wait for their return so she could continue training. As night falls a sound echos the forest, flames engulf the sleeping village. Screams wake Alex up as she rushes out of her tent seeing chaos all around. White marking and arrows rush around, Azgeda. The last thing she remembers is a hand over her mouth and getting dragged into the woods away from her home.

Word of the Triku village getting attacked gets out and Anya heads back only to find everyone dead. No trace of anyone, no trace of Alex. Everything burnt only Arrows, Azgeda arrows litter the ground and bodies. Anya frantically searches for you her stony exterior crumbling as she only finds your burnt down tent and nothing else. Anya reported back to the commander, and they decided not to distract Lexa with this news as she was the most promising and was to be Heda soon. When Lexa asked about Alex Indra lied and said she was fine, but in reality, no one knew anything, and they couldn't go anything unless they wanted a war with Ice nation. They knew the Ice nation would find out about Alex sooner rather than later they just hoped it wasn't so soon. The Queen wants the power she holds the power to destroy and wipe out everything in its path. She wants death and Alex was going to give it to her. As the years progress and Lexa takes the throne, she finds out about her friend's fate. Her being deemed captured by Azgeda. Lexa was distraught and felt betryed by those who lied to her. She sends out search parties, but they end up not coming back. She finaly stops giving in to the teachings of "Hodnes laik kwelnes" (Love is weakness). Lexa turns off all emotions and pours her whole self to her people, to the 12 clans. She was forced to keep the peace and let Azgeda into the coalition. The only thing keeping her together is that Phoenix necklace Alex gave her and some hope that she refuses to lose, she refuses to let go of Alex. She will find her, that is a promise.
