Kelsie sat in the kitchen of the Cullen house, eating a piece of garlic bread that Esme had just pulled out of the oven.

"Leave some for Bella." Esme scolded playfully, placing a bowl of pasta on the island.

Bella was coming over to officially meet the family. Although, Kelsie wasn't actually family, Edward had wanted her there. Carlisle entered the kitchen, with Emmett and Rosalie close behind him. The human would be here any second, and the man wanted all of his children to be nice.

"I'm going to go run for a bit, if I'm not back before Edward and Bella get here, just call me!" Kelsie yelled, exiting the house through the back. It wasn't uncommon for her to run in the woods. It was peaceful, and calmed her down a bit. And right now, she needed that more than ever.

Sam was different. He felt different. He had cut his hair, he was muscular, had a tattoo. He had broken up with Leah, leaving the girl absolutely heartbroken. Kelsie knew there had to be a deeper reason for him changing. She had been next to him at a bonfire the night before he cut his hair; the boy was significantly warmer than usual. Almost like he was burning a fever. He stopped hanging out with them, stopped talking to them. And Jared Cameron had followed shortly behind him.

Today, the opted to walk along the river, sitting down once she got to a spot that she liked. The only time she had ever come to the river was with Jasper; he was hunting and Kelsie wanted to tag along.

She had only been sitting there for five minutes, but it felt like hours had gone by before she heard Alice's voice. The pixie-like girl had let Kelsie know that the human had arrived, that her and Jasper were headed to the house. Sighing, Kelsie stood up, slowly walking back to the Cullen's home.

Inside the home, Rosalie had just broken a bowl full of salad. Bella had informed the family that despite them making food for her, she had already eaten. Although Esme told her it was fine; the mother knew Kelsie would eat it eventually.

Alice and Jasper had introduced themselves, and now Edward was giving Bella a tour of their home. He was stalling, waiting for the youngest vampire to arrive at the home.

"Come with me, I want to introduce you to someone." Edward, grabbing Bella's hand and leading her outside. The human was confused, she thought she had met all of Edwards family. That is, until she saw the fifteen year olf girl emerging from the woods. As soon as she saw Edward, the girl smiled, skipping towards him and his girlfriend.

"Bella, I'd like you to meet Kelsie. Kelsie, this is Bella." Edward smiled, introducing the two girls.

"Kelsie's the youngest, but she's not actually family. She lives with her brother." He whispered to Bella, as the tan hybrid approached the couple.

"It's nice to finally have someone else who eats around here." Kelsie laughed, bouncing on her heels.

"Someone else?" Bella questioned. Wasn't Kelsie a vampire?

"Kelsie's special. She's half human, so she still needs to eat to survive." Edward explained, stifling a laugh.

After an awkward silence, Edward led Bella back into the house, Kelsie leaving to go to back home.

The Lahote home was quieter than usual. Kelsie closed the door behind her, calling out for her brother. Normally, he'd be watching tv, or listening to music. But today, he was nowhere to be found.

The girl walked into Paul's bedroom, expecting to see him sleeping, or doing school work, but instead she found a messy bed, and a note placed on his desk. A note telling her that he has to stay away for a while, and she can't see him right now. Telling her that she has to stay with one of her friends until further notice. Her own brother, had changed.

Not even caring if the door closed behind her, Kelsie ran out of the small home and down the street to the Call residence. She knew Embry would be home, he always was. As soon as she entered the cozy home of Embry and Tiffany Call, Kelsie ran up the stairs to her best friends room.

Embry didn't need her to talk to know something was wrong. He could always tell. Which is why when Kelsie wrapped her arms around him, silent tears streaming down her face, he immediately hugged her back, letting her sit on his lap as she wrapped her legs around his torso.

"Shhh, you're okay Kels. I've got you." Embry whispered, tightening his grip. "We can talk whenever you're ready, okay? Take your time."

"It's Paul. He said he can't talk to me, and I have to stay somewhere else. My only family, and I can't even speak to him. Because he's friends with Sam and Jared." Kelsie cried, not moving from Embry's arms.

The boys eyes glistened as he held her close. Paul Lahote had fallen for the trap that is Sam Uley; and it was breaking Kelsie.

Minutes had passed and Kelsie had fallen silent. Embry moved his head slightly to look at her, checking on her well-being. A sigh of relief had left his mouth when he realized she had fallen asleep. Kelsie had a habit of becoming non-verbal when she was upset, and only a few people knew how to communicate with her when that happened; Paul and Embry.

Laying the girl down on his bed, he turned off the lights in his room, and made his way to the kitchen where his mom was.

"Hey mom, can Kelsie stay here for a bit? Her brother's not gonna be home for a while, and I'd rather her not be alone." Embry's voice was soft, as it always was when he spoke about his best friend.

"Of course she can, Em. She's always welcome here, you know that." Tiffany Call smiled. Out of Embry's friends, Kelsie was always her favorite.

"Thanks mom. She really needs someone right now."
