"She's such an idiot!" Kelsie's voice could be heard in the Cullen's living room

"She's such an idiot!" Kelsie's voice could be heard in the Cullen's living room. They had returned to Forks after leaving to Arizona for a few days; to keep Bella safe.

"Kelsie, she's human. They're not used to fighting like this." Carlisle tried to reason.

"Okay but following James into a death trap?! She's lucky Edward, Alice and Jasper followed her! She'd be dead right now! Or, like us." The girls voice got quiet towards the end of her sentence, not wanting Bella to have to live like them.

"She's alive and that's what matters right now." Edward spoke. "Besides, it's not like you'll live forever anyways."

"Edward we don't know that. Kelsie's the first of her kind." Esme softly reminded her son. Nobody knew if Kelsie would be immortal. But secretly, they all hoped she would be.

"She has a broken leg, and almost was turned. She's an idiot." Kelsie remarked. The hybrid would rather be anywhere but here right now, knowing that the human almost risked her life for Edward, but unfortunately, Carlisle wanted to check on her growth.

For the past two years the Lahote girl had been growing at a normal, human, rate. Carlisle was sure that she would continue to age like this, until she either became fully grown (thus being immortal), or she passed. Though, hearing about her brother, the doctor was curious to see if anything about Kelsie's human side would resemble the wolf gene.

"Kelsie, Bella's fine. She's alive and that's what matters most." Carlisle said. "Please go wait in my office, I have to talk with Edward quickly."

Listening to the vampire, Kelsie sighed, making her way down the hall to Carlisle's office. Sitting in one of the few chairs in the room, the tan girl pulled out her phone, texting her best friend about the situation.

Instead of texting Embry back, she placed her phone in her pocket, focusing her mind to Jaspers. He would be the least likely to get annoyed at her for trying to see what was going through his head. (That, and he could easily switch her mood if he wanted to.)

Almost as if he knew what Kelsie was doing, Jaspers thoughts began to fill with things like "Edward's just protective over her." and "Rose doesn't like it either.". But Kelsie's favorite thought of his was the one telling her to get out of his head, as he was currently trying to hunt, and the empath could clearly feel the young girl trying to see his thoughts. It was almost as if she could see through his eyes whenever she did this; she enjoyed messing with her gifts, getting to understand them better.

"Alright Kelsie, how's everything going with your gifts?" Carlisle's voice startled her, causing her to break focus from Jasper's brain for a bit.

"Good. I've got everything under control, except the whole mind reading thing. It's still hard to tune out thoughts once i've tuned in." Kelsie was currently trying to tune out Carlisle's thoughts, as well as Esme's.

"You'll get there. Edward will help you soon enough."

Yeah right. Edward was too busy with his human to help Kelsie anymore.

"I wanted to check in on your health. See if there's anything going on with your human side, as I've noticed that sometimes your vampire side takes over and you don't feel when something's wrong." Carlisle chuckled, stepping towards the 15 year old.

Placing his hand on Kelsie's forehead, he expected her to have her usual semi-cold temperature. One that wasn't as cold as that of a vampire, but wasn't as warm as a normal humans. Instead, he was met with warm skin; a temperature of around 70°F, which was above Kelsie's usual temperature. Furrowing his eyebrows, Carlisle pulled his hand away, continuing to check the rest of the usual spots he checked. Her heart, her lungs, her head, etc. After a while Kelsie started to get bored, and subconciously started to make herself invisible.

"Kelsie, visible please."

"Sorry Carlisle, I got bored." She apologized softly, hoping she would be free to go soon.

"Well it seems everything is okay. I think you'll be aging like a normal teenager until you're 18, but I'm not entirely sure what will happen after that." The elder explained, leaning against his desk.

"As long as I get at least a few more years with my friends. They're the first people other than you guys and Paul that I've grown to like." Kelsie let out a dry laugh. She dreaded the day she would have to leave Embry, Quil, and Jake. She hoped it would never come.

But sometimes, we don't always get what we want.
