"I'm telling you, this thing is a super-food," he mumbled. "Super-food?" you repeated holding in your laughter. "Dude, it's got meat, vegetables, grains, got some dairy in there. You can't convince me otherwise."
"Your 5 a day in a delicious Chipotle wrap," you mockingly replied. "Exactly! ...Oh. You were making fun of me," he murmured, looking at you. You snickered in response while taking another bite of your 'superfood'. "I have to admit Spidey, this is pretty good," you said, chewing with your mouth full. "As good as the double chocolate chip muffin from that café?" he asked. "Woah woah woah, don't overstep now," you defended, causing the two of you to start giggling together.
After a moment you wondered something, "Did Peter tell you about my obsession with that muffin?" Looking away, Spidey realised he had slipped up again. He had forgotten how hard it was living a double life. "Yeah, yeah he did," he lied. You mouthed an "ah" implying you understood. "You guys definitely share a lot with each other," you said looking towards him.
He nodded in response, looking away. "You always seem to get tense when I mention him. Did you guys date before or something? Is that why I never see you in the same place at the same time? That would make sense, I've found that you two can be very awkward sometimes," you rambled, trying to uncover more about Spider-Man's past. "No! Definitely not. It's uh...hard to explain. But speaking of Peter, what's the deal with him, I heard you two were fighting?" He asked, trying to change the subject as quick as possible.
"Ah, ignore him. We had a dumb little argument and I overreacted. We're good now. Atleast I think we are. We haven't really talked about it since," you explained.
They think they overreacted?!? Phew! Here I was thinking our friendship was on the brink of collapse...
"Oh good. That's good. I guess he was overreacting too when he told me you were fighting," he mumbled, nervously laughing. You sighed before saying, "He seems to be so scared of screwing up around me. I'm not gonna bite him, sheesh."
"...You should tell him that. I'm sure that'd give him a huge breath of relief,"
"Yeah I should...little do you know Spidey, I'm just as insecure as him. Guess we're all three awkward peas in a pod," you countered. "More or less," he mumbled to himself, taking another bite of his snack. "So what's going on with- uh..." you pause trying to remember the name of the foe Spidey was facing. "Wait don't tell me! ...Nigel Oscorp?"
"Atleast you got the initials right this time."
"DAMN! What is it?"
"Norman Osborn dude," he sighed, smiling at you
"ARGHH God damn it. I'll get it one if these days," you cried. "Anyways, what's happening with Norman Osborn Spider-Man."
"Well, Y/n L/n, after almost a month since his last appearance I have had zero leads, so that's fun," he replied, fiddling with the wrapper of his snack. "Oh, I'm sorry buddy. I'm sure you'll get him."
"Hopefully...but enough about me. I feel like we're always talking about me. What's up with you? Any updates on those dreams?" he asked, trying to change the subject. "What? Peter told you about that?" You replied, very quickly becoming angry and confused. "Uh- I mean," before he could come up with an excuse you interrupted him. "I told him not to tell anyone,"
"Well he didn't really-"
"That guy can be unbelievable sometimes!" you groaned.
"No but-"
"I mean I get you guys are pretty much joined at the hip but he can't keep one secret?"
"Y/n! Really! Don't worry about it. Who am I gonna tell?" he said, finally able to get a sentence out. "No I mean I trust you. Peter on the other hand," you sighed, looking at the cars roll past across the street. Shit! How did I get myself into this mess? More importantly, how do I get out? Should I...should I tell them Peter couldn't have told me? Because I AM Peter!
"Y/n, Peter didn't tell me about your dreams. Or that you love the double chocolate chip muffins from that new cafe. Or any of the other things about you," Spidey began. "What do you mean?" you replied confused. "He didn't need to. Because I...I'm-" before he could continue something moving in the distance caught your attention. "Is that Elise?!" you thought aloud, looking down over the edge of the roof top.
She was waving to you and calling out your name. "Holy shit... Wait it's bad that I'm being seen with you isn't it?"
"It's okay. I'm sure she's preoccupied with... other things," he said looking at you. "She won't tell anyone about me," he stood up, holding out his hand to help you up too. You got up and climbed onto his back. He lowered himself and you down onto the ground where you met up with Elise. "Babe! Hey! I know this is really weird considering Spider-Man is standing right next to me, but I can explain," you started.
Instead of letting you explain she interrupted you saying, "You don't need to explain. I've seen weirder. Do you wanna hang out?" She replied. Spider-Man looked at her skeptically. What a weird response to a situation like this. Surely Y/n will find this suspicious, Spidey thought.
"Oh, well, maybe later? I don't wanna blow off my friend," you mumbled, jutting your thumb towards him. As you finished your sentence Elise walked up to you. She placed her hands on your shoulders and slid them up to your neck, planting a deep kiss across your lips. Unsure of what to do, Spidey looked away awkwardly.
After what seemed like forever - for all three of you - she pulled away and let you catch your breath. "Ah... I guess he wouldn't mind if I hung out with you for a bit," you replied. Spider-Man looked at you, more confused about your suddden change of heart than angry about you so easily ditching him. "That's more like it," she whispered grabbing your hand and beginning to walk off. "Bye Spider-Man. Say hi to the Chameleon for me!" She called out.
He was caught off guard and took a second glance at her, "What did you say?! Y/n, did you hear what she just said?" he cried, becoming more confused by the minute. You turned to him and repeated what you heard her saying. "She said 'Say hi to the family for me'. Why, what's the problem?" He blinked and let out a breath of air. "Nevermind. Have fun," he mumbled. You waved him goodbye and the two of you began walking away.
Was his lack of faith in Elise making him hear what he wanted to hear instead of the truth? He shot a web at a nearby building and hoisted himself up, swinging to the top of it. I can't let them be on their own with her... Spidey thought to himself. He decided it was in your best interest if he kept tabs on you, which you easily would have disagreed with but were currently too busy fawning over your pretty girlfriend.
After 30 minutes of Spider-Man following you, he became incredibly bored. Why wasn't Elise doing anything suspicious? The two of you just seemed to be walking around the city. Elise bought you a few new clothes, and snacks from different food stands. Simple date stuff. She seemed to be trying to take you to as many places as possible in fact. He wondered why that was.
Suddenly a strange buzzing sound rung in his mind. What is that? He wondered, looking around the rooftops of the city. After scanning the area for a moment, he noticed a group of people sneaking down a sewer door. Their attire implied they had nefarious motivations, and of course, jumping down a manhole is suspicious in and of itself. He looked back towards you. You were shaking your head left to right while laughing at something Elise had just said.
It was a crowded enough environment. You should be fine. You have to be fine. "I'll come back for you bud," he whispered to himself. He began to make his way over to the site of suspicion...
