That morning Danera awoke, missing the feeling of Aegons arms around her. She knew she had started to fall for him, for the person he was around her. Elena walked in in, forcing her out of Danera out of her thoughts. "Good morning" Elena smiled. Over the last few days, she had become a friend to Danera, chatting about the castle, explaining how she ended up there. "Morning" Danera said back, still not quite ready to be up. "Late night?" Elena asked as Danera yawned for the third time since she entered her room. "I was reading" Danera explained, half telling the truth. Butterflies returning to her stomach when she thought about seeing Aegon again. Danera had thought over and over about his words, his actions. Maybe it was a game to him, but her lust overpowered her reason. After Elena had left her, a note slipped under her door. She walked over, looking down at the parchment. Dany it read on the front, she opened it gently meet me tonight. Her heart skipped a beat.
Breakfast that morning was slow, Aemond arguing with his mother about the upcoming tourney. "You must enter, it shows the strength of our house" Alicent argued. "I do not give a shit about tourneys" Aemond exclaimed "they are fake and ridiculous." He looked at Danera smiling, he knew she too did not much care for the facade. Aegon stiffened in his chair at the sight of their happiness, his jealousy creeping in. "I shall take part mother" Aegon said, still looking at Danera. "Really?" Alicent was taken aback, her son never seemed to care for such things before. "That would be wonderful" she smiled, glaring at Aemond who huffed and ignored her. Danera noticed Aegon had not asked for wine that morning, nor had he taken his eyes off her. She smiled to herself, enjoying the power she seemingly had over him.
Breakfast finally ended, with Aemond stalking off to train and Helena taking Danera off with her. Danera looked back and Aegon, hoping to leave with him. He looked to be in another argument with his mother, frustratedly running his hands through his hair. "To the garden Danera?" Asked Helena in her sweet voice. "Of course" Danera smiled at her. Helena had always been more of a sister to her than an Aunt. They walked to the gardens, arm in arm talking about a new species of butterfly Helena was desperate to tell Danera about.
Eventually, after an hour or so with Helena, Danera explained she needed a walk. "Okay" was all Helena said, far too fascinated by a millipede she had found. Danera walked around, enjoying the freedom the gardens gave her. Where she wasn't constantly watched by servants or guards. "Dany" a whisper came from behind her. Behind a tree, she could see Aegons shaggy white hair and tall figure. As she walked over, she found herself in a small clearing, surrounded by hedges. A place that would not be noticed if you didn't know the gardens inside out. Aegon, still awkward, sat down against the large tree. "How did you find this" Danera asked, walking around in awe. "Many years of wanting to hide from my mother, princess" he smiled at her, enjoying having her close again. Letting reason overpower her, she tried to look stern, but clearly failed as Aegon was still smiling. "Why are you doing this" she asked, her smile had left her face. "Because I care for you, even when I treated you like shit, you didn't turn on me, you helped me" Aegon explained, also looking serious "not many people do that around here" his face saddened. Danera was still not used to the vulnerable Aegon. This was not the Aegon she grew up with. "Are you just trying to bed me, Aegon" she said sternly. Her consistent worries creeping back. "No, no, I would never" he said looking upset. "I couldn't, I couldn't do that to you" looking down "is that what you think of me?" Danera thought back to her conversations with Elena. She had warned her of Aegon, his behaviour in his constant drunken state, but then, here he was, sober and pouring his heat out to her. Danera shook her head. "Friends?" Aegon looked up at her, he was still sitting against the tree, his hands on his knees. "Friends." She replied, letting herself smile at him.
They walked back, smiling and chatting. Something still unnatural to both of them.
That afternoon, Aegon worked hard in training, knowing he wasn't up to tourney standard. He hated himself for saying he would do it, but he needed to prove himself to Danera, and intended to gain her favour, the idea of any other man even looking at her turned his stomach. Using this anger in each swing of his sword against Ser Cristen, "something upset you, my lord?" Cristen asked half teasingly, Aegons face seething with fury. This mockery angered him, making him push Cristen further and further towards the walls of the training ground, until he had him pinned, his blade to Cristens throat. Aegon pulled away, throwing his sword down, panting. "Didn't you hear Ser Cole, Aegon signed up for the upcoming tourney" a sly smile drawn across Aemond face. Still full of anger, Aegon picked up his sword, swinging it straight for Aemond, who blocked the attack with ease. "Enough, Aegon" Cole shouted, having delt with an angry Aegon far to many times.
