Jace left Kings Landing the next day, to keep up the pretence of his anger at his sister for usurping the throne. Neither Aegon or Danera bid him farewell, carrying on with their duties at court. Aegon spent that morning with Aemond, finally planning to leave the castle and make their way to Dragonstone. Aemond and Helena had to leave with them, or else be forced upon the throne themselves, but getting all four of them out of the castle wasn't going to be easy. The level of trust Otto and Alicent had in Aegon had grown, their argument the night before making them believe they had a greater power over him, that the loyalty he'd once had to Danera was fading, and with that his loyalty to the Blacks.
Aemond and Aegon made their way to the top rooms of the castle, one of the few places they wouldn't be overheard. "I'm not sure how much longer we can keep Daemon at bay brother" Aegon spoke, pacing across the room "he is patient for Daneras sake, but I know they worry that we will not follow through with our plan." Aemond remained silent for a moment, sat regally in a large velvet chair. "We could plan a feast, something to fill the castle of people, then you can slip away into the city undetected" Aemond replied. Aegon nodded in response, his brother always being the clever one out of the pair. "However," Aemond continued "you may not be able to leave on Dragonback, it would be too obvious." Aegon ran his fingers through his short white hair in frustration. Dragons weren't everything with the numbers they had, but the idea of leaving Sunfyre behind hurt him, she had been there when no one else had, and he knew Otto had nothing against killing her if necessary. "Unless we just took our dragons and left, killing anyone who gets in our way" Aegon shrugged, Aemond smiled, knowing his brothers violent ways. "Theres always that option I suppose" Aemond replied, at this point, he worried it may be the only option to ensure the four of them make it out. "Looks like we have a feast to plan" Aegon stated, determined. He could not sit on that throne for one more moment longer than he had to, desperate to get out of Kings Landing and away from it all, to raise his child in peace.
Aegon proposed a feast to his mother, to celebrate his future heir. Alicent took to this idea immediately, planning and preparing with her ladies and servants. Aegon and Danera were happy to let Alicent take over of course, it meant they had more time to work on the real plan.
Both Aemond and Aegon had been monitoring the dragon keepers schedules, working out which ones they could trust to assist them. Meanwhile Danera and Helena assisted with preparations, encouraging Alicent to invite as many lords and ladies as possible to fill the castle, making their disappearance as swift and undetectable as possible.
"Don't you think leaving on dragon back is a bit obvious?" Asked Helena, as the four of them sat in Aegons study. "By the time they see us, they won't be able to get us down, we're the only ones with the dragons sister" Aegon replied, slightly smug. "And what happens when we get there?" Helena continued, Aegon leaning back in his chair with a bored expression, tired of being constantly questioned by his sister. "Then we side with Rhaenyra" Aegon replied bluntly. Danera looked at Helena apologetically for her husbands impatient mood. "What will happen to Mother when our sister takes back the crown?" Helena continued, looking slightly worried. Out of all of them, Helena had been the only one slightly close to their mother, being the last born. Aemond and Aegon only looked at eachother in response, knowing what would likely happen, but not wanting to upset Helena. Although she was a married woman, she was still only young, and they felt the need to protect her from this particular truth. "I imagine she will have to surrender Hel" Danera replied softly, stroking Helena's back. Aemond turned back to his wife and sister in law, returning to their previous discussion of the plan before Helena's questions. "So once you see Helena and I leave, you must slip off not long after, we will go separate ways out of the castle to give us the best chance of us getting away" Aemond began "the main thing really, is getting you and Aegon away" he finished, looking up at Danera and then to her belly. "If we leave without you, they will only force the crown upon your head, brother" Aegon replied "it's all or nothing."
Later that evening, Alicent requested they all attend dinner to go over the last of the decisions for the feast. "One last time" Aegon mumbled grumpily as he followed his wife to dinner. "It will work, it has to" Danera replied, convincing herself just as much as her husband. Alicent sat at the head of the table, waiting for her children. It made Danera sick to see her sitting where her grandfather once did, to see how easily she replaced him, reflecting her desperation for power and control. "Ah Danera, how are you feeling your grace" Alicent smiled. "Well, thank you" Danera replied, trying to keep her answer as short and sweet as possible. The four of them made polite small talk throughout dinner, making as much effort as possible so as not to show their true intentions.
