I stared at the large building I had used to call home, now only a ghost. A phantom memory from another time.
I didn't want to go in, though it wasn't like I had much a choice. All the clothes I had brought to the mansion had been rushed, expendable pieces of fabric. Things I could due without If I were to lose them. All my real ones—the ones I actually liked—were here. Along with all my other baubles and belongings that I needed.
Meaning I'd just have to go in and hope and pray that no one was home.
My shoes clanked against the grey cobbles as I walked toward the front door, staring as though it were some mystery. I stared at handle for a long moment, wondering if silence or anger would await me inside. My hand hesitantly reached out, colliding with the cool metal of the doorknob before I twisted and pushed.
The door opened with a soft creak and I wasted no time getting inside and walking toward the stairs to my room.
My steps were slow and silent. To anyone else, I was the picture of calm and collected, in no rush to be anywhere or do anything. And yet internally...I was quite the mess, to say the least. A whirl of worry and panic that I'd see my brothers and feel old wounds open—
No. I wouldn't let them have that power over me. I was strong and I could handle myself perfectly fine. If my brothers found me here, so be it. I had nothing to fear from them or anyone else. They could do nothing to stop me from leaving, nor convince me to stay.
My arm reached out slowly, grabbing the dark oak wood of the stair rail to swing myself up. My foot collided with the first step, and then the second step as I ascended toward the hal—
"You know if you're trying to sneak up on someone, you should really try harder." A voice spoke from the bottom of the stairs.
Fuck.
This was inconvienient.
It's fine. I'm fine. Everythings fine. They can't do anything. I'm the powerful one in this situation.
Slowly, I turned on my heel, my chin raised and my expression no more than stone as I looked at my eldest brother. "Whoever said I was trying to sneak up on someone?"
He arched a brow in that Damon-y way of his that made anger set fire in my veins. I pushed it down. Pushed it way, way down.
Calm and collected, Lili. Calm and collected.
"What else would you be doing in our house?" Damon asked, sipping from the crystal glass of bourbon he held in his hand.
I tilted my head, my hand still on the railing as I took a step down. "Packing my things." I replied.
