If the tension occupying his body vibrated, the whole house would be a pile of rocks. His jaw tensed and the muscles on his body flexed in synchronicity, as his posture straightened. Wayne couldn't feel more embarrassed from how much he felt right now. But he wouldn't dare to show them.

After that deadly disease that spread through the wolf packs – causing nearly the extinction of the she-wolves – it became one of the packs' priorities to ensure their bloodlines continued. Moon river pack has taken this role very seriously. As soon as females had their first shift – signalling the walking of the wolf within – they were fitting with a mate.

But for Wayne, that was a whole other issue. He believed that his fated mate is somewhere out there and he was convinced that he'd find it one day. He didn't want to be mated to someone just for the sake of impregnating her as soon as possible.

He wanted to feel what true mates feel. That special bonding of their souls, that his mother once told him when he was just a child, learning about the world around him. He had a few adventures during his teenage phase, but nothing that would be considered mating.

Now, just after entering his thirties, Wayne was the most wanted wolf. Every she-wolf was drooling over him. He was the golden apple, intriguing the females' imagination wherever he went.

And this occasion was no exception. Wayne scanned the room and realised all the eyes were on him. Especially the females - were more than the males in the room - were undressing him with their eyes. All the unmated females were present, dressed in as less fabric as possible.

"Not yet," Wayne answered coldly, cutting any possibility for further questions on that matter. Alpha Mason gave him a look, but he ignored him. Alpha Remus better not stick his nose where he has no business.

Alpha Remus said nothing rather than nodding in understanding. No matter how younger than him Wayne must be, he is the future Alpha and Alphas should respect each other and also respect their boundaries.

In the meantime, the tall blonde woman - with exceptionally bright green eyes - that was sitting beside Drake, was boiling in anger. At first, having Drake - her mate - delivering the punishments to that filthy excuse of a wolf called Ivory, had seemed nothing special. Just a 10-minute occupation that kept her beloved one away from her.

But when she heard from the maids that Drake had specifically asked to be the only person punishing her, suspicion became a permanent resident in her mind. This obsession of his was not normal. It was hiding something else, something darker.

She knew that Drake was not the epitome of loyalty. Before she come to the Moon river pack, she was floating on cloud nine when Drake came and asked her to be his mate.

Her perfect image of him slightly creased when upon her arrival on the Moon river pack, she learned that almost all females had passed from his bed when they had their first shift. They considered him a good luck charm to find their mates. But she was willing to make this work between them and keep a close eye on his past actions.

Finally, after six months of being here, the members of this pack were treating her as they should be. She had earned their respect and this was blooming her with pride, so when Drake steps up as Alpha of the Moon river pack, she will be the proud Luna standing by his side.

However, this obsession with punishing Ivory was making her feel uneasy. Alpha Remus had reassured her that nothing is going to happen between him and Ivory, as she would be remained untouched in case a sacrifice to the goddess is required.

The thing is, Drake was going wild and Evelyn had to stop this. Last night he even went away from her touch and refused to mate with her on the grounds of having urgent things to attend to.

But when they went to sleep and she heard him calling Ivory in his sleep something inside her twisted in the most impossible way. She had to find a way and get rid of Ivory, regardless if the pack needs her or not. Her priority was to save her mate from his madness.

Ivory felt like walking on air, as two strong bulky guards had grabbed her by the arms and were dragging her back to her tent. They lifted her so high that her feet could not touch the ground.

When they reached the tent, one of them opened the tent cloth and shoved her inside. Ivory lands on the humid ground like a pile of bones. One of the guards even spits in front of her before they both turn around and head back to the pack.

Shivering uncontrollably - from the exhaustion and pain and cold - she crawl across the ground until she approached the mattress and got under the blanket spread above it, curling herself like a ball.

The dinner - despite the unfortunate event when Ivory threw a substantial portion of the food - was a success. Alpha Remus was sitting in his study, behind his desk, as usual, having a drink with Alpha Mason and Wayne, who were sitting on the chairs in front of his desk.

Drake was in his usual place - standing next to his father with arms crossed in front of his chest. Evelyn was there too, standing a bit away from the group, with her shoulder on the window, gazing at the weather outside.

"Tomorrow, we're going to receive a small group of fairies" Alpha Remus' voice resonates after taking a sip from his drink. "They will be sold to the highest bidder. And they are specialists in pleasure." He winks at them. "You should try them."

"Thank you for the invitation Remus but you know, we usually stay out of this type of activity." Alpha Mason kindly rejected his offer.

Alpha Remus opened his mouth but Wayne was faster than him.

"Actually, I'd like to attend one of those meetings. Just once," he said with a look full of meaning. Alpha Remus grinned at him.

"I like your son Mason. He wants to get into business."

Though, none of the people in this room had any idea what Wayne's plan was.

Back at the Alpha's house at the Silver spear pack, Alpha Mason was pacing up and down the floor in his study, furious with the decision of his son to attend the meeting. The veins passing from his temples were clearly visible on his tanned skin, and his body's pulse felt like an electric current.

"Are you insane?" he screamed at Wayne as he kept walking. "We stay out of these things! This is beyond our moral compass! What has gone wrong in your mind to accept?"

Wayne looked at him with a deadpan expression on his face, though he could feel the blood boiling under his skin. "I'm doing this to save them. Not because I want to see some beings traded like goods."

"And how do you intend to do that?" Alpha Mason finally stopped in his tracks.

"I'll buy them all. And then set them free far away, where no one could find them and enslave them."

Wayne's father stood there silent, contemplating the plan of his son. It was stupid. Spending all this money to win the bids of the others and buy all the fairies was a stupid plan. Yet, there was no other way to do it.

Sneaking back into Remus' pack and stealing them when the transaction would take place was like signing their deaths. Wayne's idea was a bad plan, but better than not having any.

"Remus said the group would be small, so I think that my money could be enough to do this." Wayne stood up walking closer to his father. "Please father, this has to stop. At the moment I cannot implement my original plan. It would take some time to work. So, the only option now is to buy them and relocate them to a safe place."

Alpha Mason said no word apart from looking at his son with pride. He was not the best person on Earth, trading drugs and weapons, but he was never living beings.

"You'll make a hell of an Alpha when you take over." his father replied, stretching a hand over Wayne's shoulder, giving a firm squeeze.
