Everything was ready by the time the sun dived behind the trees. Wayne was standing in his study, looking outside the window where a life's work was spreading before his eyes. His father's work. And his father before him. And now, his.
The small delay in the ceremony was doing nothing to reduce the weight crushing his shoulders. On the contrary, it was keeping him on edge. Guests kept coming each day passing since the preparations began. His territorial grounds were suffocated with people from all the nearby packs and further away. It was a long time since the wolf world had seen an ascension ceremony and the Silver Spear pack was fortunate with many allies.
Leaning forward, Wayne rested his forehead on the wooden frame of the window. He felt messed up and for good reason. He was a mess. He felt bad for Ivory. One moment of courage a few months before and both their lives would have taken a totally different turn. Now, they both suffer in the dead end they find themselves into.
He felt bad for Gina too. She wasn't the woman to speak his heart. He didn't want her for Luna or mate. They had some fun pleasuring each other but never felt more to him. And the only time they mated he has no record of it. But the child in her arms is the living proof. Damn, the kid looks like him so much, there's no way to deny it.
You've fucked it up big time, Wayne. How will I ever be a good Alpha when my own life is shit? He murmured to himself.
The sky grew darker as the sun had long waved goodbye from this plane. Tonight was the last time he would see Ivory as a free man. As for tomorrow... when they'll meet, Wayne would be the crowned Alpha of the Silver Spear pack, and Gina will stand beside him as his Luna. He has one more chance to be alone with his true mate. To show his love and affection. He needed this. He needed her to know how deep he feels for her.
Even though they'll never be able to be together.
In the meantime, Ivory was standing in the room, walking towards the large mirror in her bathroom. The dark blue gown was hugging her curves, the material so soft it felt like touch. And what she would be giving to be Wayne's touch.
A memory flashed before her eyes. The night that Wayne was lurking in the dark, startling her. The night that brought the kiss that unlocked a whole new world she had no idea about. A world that revealed a person that would never believe - not even in her wildest dreams - that existed for her.
Her fated mate.
But life does circles and regardless that small deviation in its normal course, everything were set back to order. The sudden joy she felt was cursed. She had devoted herself to the goddess and given a vow. It was not something that could change from one moment to another.
But her heart was awaken wild since that kiss they shared, and no matter she knew this was totally wrong, she wanted more. Maybe it wouldn't matter to be a gift of goodbye forever for him. He seemed to continued his life normally even though he knew.
Ivory shook her head to shove the sudden burst of anger of her last thought surfaced. It was futile to be angry at this point. Letting a long breath out, she gathered her broken pieces, heading to the spring under the giant willow tree.

Gina was furious. Wayne had to leave again, and everyone seemed too busy to spare a few hours for her to spy on him. Her jealousy was beyond limits, she could hardly keep control anymore. And the fact that she didn't knew what was discussed earlier was driving her wild. She always knew.
