Why I Adore Female Characters (even if I prefer Male characters over them)?

Growing up, I didn't connect with a lot of girls in my age group. I felt different and struggled with my femininity. They were mostly interested in makeup and etc. But I loved playing dolls since we knew as young girls were into those stuff. As I grew older, I'm already exposed to movie media. And despite my preference for male main characters over females, you've got to give credit when it's due. Amazing female characters such as Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Sailor Moon, Fiona (Shrek), Mulan (Disney), Maria (Book Of Life), and Helga Pataki (Hey Arnold!).

Usually in YA or NA novels, the female protagonist don't have flavor to their personalities and sometimes can come across boring while the guys are over here winning with their awesome complex personalities.

As an author, I will give both genders the capability to have complex personalities and compelling stories that aren't Mary Sues or Gary Stus.

It's mostly the animated females that get the most complex storylines like Kim Possible while teen live-action shows such as Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, and Fate: The Winx Saga has most of the female characters deemed unlikable and it makes the audience rather sympathize over a guy character regardless of gender.

I realize that girl characters should show more of themselves as human and consistent with their beliefs than make them one-dimensional. Don't make them dumb and always allow them to have common sense in their actions than point fingers to be dramatic. Also with romance, let the heterosexual female desire to care for her partner's needs and show more to the relationship than sex because you can't just list all females wanting sex when there should be a difference to what the girl wants in her romantic life.

Another thing is to show a female character in their menstrual stage. Not only that, let the female characters have a group of girl friendships that comes from a place of philia (family/friendship love). I adored shows like Bratz, Monster High, and Barbie. In my opinion, I have longed for girl friendships to be able to relate to one another. Nothing queer or anything but desiring those fun activities to do. Nowadays, some women are either fake or something else. I don't have a lot of girls as friends per se but have been through my fair share of toxic girl friendships and in reality, girls as friends have a stronger bond since we connect and resonate.

I adore female characters if done right because there is more to us than wearing dresses and putting on lipstick or getting a boyfriend. We have complex personalities and that should be shown more than a passive female character in some shows and books. Guys as characters in almost all media are written as funny, interesting, and worth watching. And I feel like girls should be worth more than they are.
