THIRTEEN : Better Than Movies

Forever

Was a word not meant for us, but for our memories

We have always been better than the movies

Better than they would ever be

CHEYENNE AMORE MARTIN

Austin was such a good friend.

He found a cupid costume and I guess that was what he was going to be. I didn't find one I liked. We were still in the store and he was trying to find one I was interested in.

He was picking through the clothing in a big barrel in the middle of the store, it was making me laugh. It was like he was my own personal stylist. "How about a goddess?" Austin suddenly got out of the barrel with these head pieces of fake gold.

"We could match." He handed me the bag and I liked the accessories. It was full of handpieces and other things. "We should go to a different store for the dress, I need to go to a different store for a suit too."

He must really have liked halloween to go all out with this. "I would love it." I could feel my smile grow, I liked being around Austin. We checked out of the party city and he called what I thought was an uber.

A car pulled up and the driver got out and started to walk away into a different car. "Austin?" I turned around to get him but he was already in the car. "He just left it here!" I exclaimed I opened the car door and tried to talk about him out of the car.

"What if the police comes?" I asked and he started laughing. My eyes grew wide, I guess he was never scared of the police before and it was weird to see that. He pulled his ginger hair back and smiled.

"I asked to get my car back." Austin patted on the seat and I got into his car. I wasn't sure what kind of store we were going to but I couldn't wipe the smile off my face if I wanted to.

As we were driving I heard my phone start to ring. I went in my purse and I was getting two incoming calls. I picked up the phone for my first call and my sister answered. "Cheyenne! Oh are you still coming?" I could hear some kids in the background, and my sister washing dishes.

"Of course what's happening?" I asked because it was pretty loud so I couldn't hear her.

"I'm getting ready to take them trick or treating. Mama grew soft, I guess what happened with Claire really hit her. She's trying Cheyenne." Chantel said, I hated it when she gave that woman excuses.

So I let her talk some more.

"Oh, and Colt is saying some crazy things about Claire like she was coming to his school." Chantel said but I could hear my mother in  the background.

Claire was our sister. She was killed along with a few of her friends during what police believed to be a gang shooting. Claire wouldn't ever hang out with people that were in a gang so I knew something else had happened.

She died on the surgery table.

But, to believe that she was still alive was bewildering. I stopped believing in anything after the words "She died on the table" came out of the cops mouth. Burying your sister will change you forever and it changed me for sure.

I hung up.

Austin soon turned on the radio, 'Candy Rain.'

Did he hear my conversation? I would like to think he didn't for my own personal well being.
