SEVENTEEN: Resolutions

I am firm with what I don’t say to you
I don’t allow the words to fall from my lips
I curse myself from giving compliments
Because we are just friends no doubt about it
But I don’t feel that way and it’s tragic
I will climb the tower again and again
So, I can hold the princesses hand
Just for her to say we’re just friends.
This isn’t the way the story was supposed to end
And for as long as I live I will prove it to you I am worthy & true.
A knight in shining armor all for you.

Austin Mallory Channing

Some time had passed and it was now New year’s eve today and I only had one revolution to fix his friendship with Cheyenne.

Everytime I would see her I would just ask, “How are you?” and she would simply say “Good you?” and then I would say “Good” and would take in each other's looks and finish walking down the hallway. We didn’t hang out like we used to. I didn't need tutoring since day one and that was oblivious so I just let it be and we went our different ways.

I heard there was going to be a new years eve party in Seventh heaven. The school rented out all kinds of amusement park items and I was going to ask her to go with me.  I think it was going to be fun.

Plus an after party was also being discussed. On the low-key because of all the new staff actually caring about what was going on. After the school improvement week a lot of teachers were fired because of misconduct mostly because of the payouts that I told my dad about. Yeah, I snitched on myself.

And it was getting out of hand and when I say this it was getting too serious. A prestigious school that once up held respect was being defamed as I knew it and father’s name as well and once he came to me in rehab asking me what was going on, I blabbed.

But for right now I was thinking about how I was going to ask her probably during the second or third period in Mrs. Falls class if I gave her just ONE more pay out she would be down and willing to change or arrange for us to be together for a project or something.

Even after all the “crooked” teachers were fired she still stood tall.

I walk into the class a little early to do my business, well pay her off and no complaints. I sat down in my seat as the class started to come in and my eyes just couldn’t come off of her. Today she wore her hair in a bun and the uniform just always looked better on her.

As everyone got seated Mrs. Falls started today’s lesson “Once I was a student just like you. I didn’t go to any fancy school. But I had a great teacher and mentor named Mrs. Johnson.”

“She did this poetry assignment and it stuck with me because of this one poem. The topic was differences and similarities. Once you guys have read your poems to each other I will read the poem that stuck with me all these years to you. Until then I want you to pick a name out of the hat.” Mrs. Falls started to walk around with the hat with nothing but joy on her face to once do what her old mentor did for her to us.

What a surprise to me I got Mrs. Martin and she got me. I don’t know how Mrs. Falls did it but I wasn’t asking how either.

“So, now that you have your partners, try to analyze them and put it into words. I want these poems to be some of the best I’ve ever read. Trust me there will be no easy A’s. And no class time to work on these, this project will be due amongst other assignments. Get to know your partners.”  Mrs. Falls finished and the bell rang.

I walked out in a rush to get to the gym that was on the highest floor. Mrs. Mattews did not play when it came to being late. For the guys she would have us do push-ups if we were a minute late to teach some sense of responsibility since we had none according to her.
