She woke slowly, yawning and stretching beneath her heavy blankets. Warm rays of sunshine glistened through the rose panes, creating rainbow colors on the grey curtains that sway in the breeze from the ceiling fan. Outside the birds are chirping and beckoning her to start the day. She slowly sits up, pushing her ginger locks off her face, as she blinks the sleep from her eyes. The soft rays from the morning sun grace her pale complexion, with a groan she rolls to the opposite side to shield herself from the bright light. Her eyes flutter close as she mentally prepares herself for what can only be a long and eventful day.
Hesitantly, she swings her legs over the edge of the bed, slipping them into her pink bunny slippers. Opening the door to her room, she walks down her dark narrow hallway, feeling the wall for the light switch to bring some light to the gloomy, windowless area.
"AHA, let there be light!" She joked to herself as she blinked a few times, trying to adjust to the shift in lighting as she made her way down the narrow hall into the small kitchen. She gathers the ingredients for her "Birthday Surprise Pancakes," the sound of the coffee machine fills the quiet kitchen as she lifts her mug down from the cupboard.
She irritably takes a pan from the rack, already dreading the dishes she'll have to do later.
With a flip of her wrist, she plops the last pancake onto her plate, adding whipped cream and sprinkles of course. Satisfied with her creation she grabs her favorite mug and pours herself coffee.
The faint sound of her phone ringing from down the hall breaks her concentration. She sets her cutlery down on her plate of half-eaten pancakes. With a sigh, already knowing who it was, she pushes herself up from the chair and makes her way to her room. Her phone continues ringing against the top of the nightstand she had placed it on the night before.
"Hello Sam," she tuts with an over-exaggerated sigh, her voice dripping with a fake annoyance. She makes her way back to the kitchen, looking forward to finishing off her breakfast.
"Why are you calling this early?" She jokingly continues.
"Well, hello to you too Evelyn. I just thought you'd be happy to hear from me!" Sam responds sadly with a fake offense.
A few moments of silence pass before the pair breaks into laughter, too tired to even continue their fake annoyance with each other.
"Ah well, of course, I am always happy to hear from you." The smile Evelyn was wearing was evident still as much even though he couldn't see it.
"Well to state the obvious, I called to say Happy Birthday... so Happy Birthday Birthday EV!" Sam shouted through the phone, no doubt wearing his typical smug smile.
"Thank you, Sam" she chuckled, hearing the joy in his voice.
After saying their goodbyes, Evelyn sets her empty plate and mug in the sink, not caring enough to do the dishes right now. Back in her room, Evelyn looks through her wardrobe for something to wear for her Birthday. Running her hand over the various materials of the clothing, she settles on a long tan shirt with jeans, shorts, and long high heel boots that went all the way to her knees. Once she was ready for the day she grabbed her purple flap satchel bag from the hanger next to her front door, along with keys to her mini S.U.V before heading outside.
After all, a girl only turns 18 once. Evelyn decides to treat herself to a manicure down at the mall in her hometown.
Checking her watch yet again, she notices that it's been way longer than how long she was originally told to wait. She lefts her purple satchel from the side of the seat and decides to go get something to eat.
After collecting her takeaway pizza, she made her way back to the parking lot where her SUV was parked. A loud scream stopped her from getting into her car as she looked down towards the ally behind the mall.
She dropped her food as she ran towards the back of the mall as fast as she could.
She stopped suddenly once she caught sight of three people before her. The two boys who where dressed in all black, tattoos covering their arms and the back of their necks. It was kinda hot, Evelyn thought. Both men had black hair and were about 6ft.
Shifting her gaze, Evelyn took in the girl before her. She wore a tight red dress that hugged her body, emphasizing her curves with a matching pair of heels. Her blond hair flowed against her paper white skin, very angelic looking.
A scream breaks Evelyn's train of thought as her eyes darts to the woman crying on the cold pavement of the parking lot. One of the men points his sword towards the woman who continues to sob on the ground.
The light glistens along the length of as the sharp object as his fists turn white from holding the gold so tightly.
"Those fake tears aren't going to save you. We know what you are" he pauses, looking down at the woman with a smug look on his face, "Demon." He practically spits the words out of his mouth like they are poison. He lifts his sword, preparing to swing as Evelyn jumps between him and the woman. She started at them both, as he searches my face, clearly wondering what is going on.
