CHAPTER 41

Shri Ram was confident that he would kill Vali but Sugreev wasn't. It was the son of the great Indra they were talking about, who had subdued even Ravan as if it was a child's play.

Vali always strides across the four oceans praying to sun at dawn. Once Ravan decided to challenge him for a duel, he planned to attack Vali from behind when the son of Indra was busy doing Sandhyupasna at the time.

But before Ravan could make his move, Vali without even looking back tucked him under his arm and jumped across the 4 seas while offering prayers to the sun.

Ravan had to accept that Vali was stronger than him and smartly the son of Kaikeshi extended a hand of friendship to Vali and they became good friends.

Thinking about this incidents among other feats of Vali like killing Dundubhi, Mayavi, climbing mountain peaks to pick up huge boulders and throw them up only to catch them for fun, uprooting huge trees with his bare hands just to prove his strength, Sugreev wasn't sure if defeating him would be easy.

Vali was exceptionally powerful and Sugreev wanted to educate Shri Ram about his opponent before he takes any action.

"Prabhu, ek baar Dundubhi namak ek bael roopi Rakshas jo Kailash parvat jitna bada tha aur jisme 1000 haathiyo ka bal tha usne Vali bhaiya ko dwand ka awahan diya. Yu toh bhaiya madira ke nashe mei the kintu fir bhi unhone dwand swikaar kiya. Unhone Dundubhi ko uske singho se pakda, ghumaya aur bhoomi pe gira diya. Vali bhaiya yeh tab tak karte rahe jab tak Dundubhi ki mrityu nahi huyi. Fir uss Rakshas ke mrit-deh ko bhaiya ne utha ke ek yojan dur fek diya, jo Maharishi Matang ke aashram mei gir. Aur chuka unka tapovan dushit ho gaya unhone yeh shraap diya ki Vali kabhi bhi Rishyamukh parvat par nahi aa sakta. Yeh karan hai ki mai aur mere mantri yaha rehte hai." Sugreev said.

Shri Ram and Lakshman patiently listening to the story with a smile on their face.

"Toh yeh Vali bhaiya ki Shakti. Kya aap aise shatru ka vadh kar sakte hai ?" Sugreev asked.

"Ram bhaiya aisa kya kare jisse aapko unki shakti par vishwas ho ?" Lakshman asked with a smile.

"Vali ek baad ek, 7 Sala ke ped ko aise hila sakta hai ki unke patte jhad jaaye. Yadi Shri Ram ek sala ke ped ko apne teer se bhed de, aur Dundubhi ke kankaal ko 200 dhanush ki lambai ki duri tak fek de toh mai sunishchit ho jaunga. Prabhu yeh mat samajhiyega ki mujhe aapke shakti par shanka hai, aapke jaisa mitra paake toh mai dhanya hu. Kintu mujhe Vali ke bal ka gyaan hai kintu aapki shakti ka anumaan nahi, aur yahi mere bhaye ka karan hai." Sugreev said.

Shri Ram didn't mind it one bit. After all a precept leader should test even their close friends before trusting their abilities as told to them. Hence Shri Ram understood the concern of the Pragmatic Sugreev.

"Yadi meri kshamtao par vishwas nahi hai, toh mere karmo par avashya hoga Sugreev." Shri Ram said.

And then they went near Dundubhi's skeleton. Shri Ram simply flicked it away with his big toe, and the skeleton flung 10 yojan away. It was an unbelievable feat but Sugreev thought it wasn't enough because the skeleton was a lot lighter than the corpse which had flesh and blood intact when Vali threw it.

Hence Sugreev requested Shri Ram to pierce the Sala tree too. The son of Kaushalya agreed and held his magnificent bow, adjusted his arrow and pulled the string.

The sound of the string reverberated through the jungle as the arrow zoomed through piercing one tree after another. With just one arrow Shri Ram had pierced 7 Sala trees. Sugreev had no more doubts about his friends dexterity and prowess.
