"Jesse..."

The faint murmurs of her name caught the girl's attention.

"Jesse..."

Oh no, she thought. Please, not again.

"Why do you keep running from your past?"

Jesse arose to her feet, as she stumbled through the pitch black surrounding her. This question made circles around her head.

"Leave me alone," she whispered, her voice noticeably uneasy.

The room echoed with the sound of laughter, menacingly taunting her as she wandered aimlessly in the darkness.

"Why?"

"Help!"

"Traitor!"

"MURDER!"

The voices occupied her mind as she screamed, begging for them to stop.

"I'm sorry!" she yelled from the cold, empty room.

They did not stop, instead got louder, torturing Jesse as she sank to the floor. She covered her ears, feeling as if they were bleeding, or burning perhaps. Her head was spinning, as a heat wave overcame her body. Stars appeared in her eyes, whilst the blood slowly drained from her head.

"I'm sorry." she heaved out in a faint whisper. "I'm sorry..."

Then, she woke up. Jesse gasped into consciousness, immediately looking around to find herself in the safety of her own bedroom. She was buried in a pool of sweat and completely out of breath. She took a deep inhale, then laid back down in bed. It was just a nightmare. Only the twenty-third night in a row.

2 years later...

Jesse brushed away the eraser bits and held up her book, analyzing every word. She placed the book back onto her lap, continuing her light scribbles. Recently, she had taken a liking to writing. It was like her happy place. The window was wide open, letting in the cool breeze of the fall weather. The sunlight beamed through, shining directly onto the pages. She furrowed her eyebrows, fully concentrating on the task at hand. The doorknob rattled, turning her attention to the corner of the room.

Just a few moments later, the door burst open. "Jesse! Jesse!"

Discovering it to be Radar, Jesse smiled. She enjoyed what he had to say... most of the time. Only when he rambled would it slightly agitate Jesse. But besides that, she loved the company of her, slightly nerdy, assistant and close friend.

"What's up Radar?" Jesse closed her book, placing it on her nightstand along with the pencil.

"Just wanted to remind you about tonight."

Jesse cocked her head in confusion. "What's tonight?"

"Don't tell me you forgot." He pushed his glasses up.

She gave a small smile in response.

"Welp, this is why I'm reminding you." He took a step into the room. "Lukas will be here tonight, remember?"

Jesse's eyes lit up. "Shoot, that's tonight? I thought he was coming next week."

Radar shook his head. "He should be here soon, but you have some time."

"Alright, okay." Jesse took a deep breath, feeling quite anxious about the situation. "Thanks for letting me know."

Radar's smile grew. "I'll leave you to it."
