Jesse had prepared herself for the worst when she saw Beacontown for the first time in almost a year. She expected to find every building burnt to debris and the unpleasant smell of smoke still occupying the air. But the devastating image she created in her mind was completely erased when she stood before the gates. She could see inside, where the townspeople conversed while fixing up the new buildings which stood in place of the fallen ones. Jesse was surprised to notice the smiles painted on their faces. The town was made smaller, far different than she had last seen it, but the people who lived there remained just as she left them. High-spirited and hopeful, even in the worst of situations.
"You need a minute or two?" Lukas asked, stepping to her side.
She shook her head. "No. I think I'm good."
Jesse pushed open the gate and led her friends through. She couldn't take her eyes off the bright-colored decorations which surrounded her. Banners hung high from the sides of the newly rebuilt houses and flowers were scattered around them. She couldn't believe that so much had gotten done in such a short amount of time.
A familiar high-pitched voice spoke out to her. "Jesse, you're back!"
She faced foward just in time to notice Radar's face before he threw his arms around her. "You don't know how worried we've been. It's been so long- and- and, everyone was asking questions-"
He rambled on and on, but the words jumbled together. So, wordlessly, Jesse hugged him back tightly. Radar was certainly within the top five of things she missed most while she was gone. Words couldn't describe how glad she was to see him again.
"Is everything okay now? What about Herobrine? Is he still alive?" Radar pulled out of the hug, asking nervously.
"He's dead. We won't have to worry about him again." A slight frown made its way onto her face as she looked down.
Radar nodded, pushing his glasses up on his nose. "Okay, okay..." His gaze shifted to Lukas and Petra. "Oh! Thank goodness you're both here too." He enveloped the two of them in a hug.
A moment later, Radar let go and looked over to Jesse. "And don't worry Jesse, I'm ensuring the rebuilding process runs accordingly. We've already made a lot of progress don't you think?"
A realization washed over Jesse. Just because she was the leader of Beacontown, didn't mean she could not look to her people for help. She always felt that all the responsibility was on her shoulders. But that couldn't be further from the truth. She had Radar and her other friends by her side. The thought brought a sense of warmth to her.
Jesse smiled at him. "Oh, yeah. Definitely."
"If we keep moving at the pace we're going at, we should be finished in no time!" He continued with optimism.
"Thank you for handling the whole thing. And especially for taking such good care of Beacontown all this time." Jesse spoke genuinely and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Aw shucks... I'm just doing my job." He scratched his neck sheepishly. "But anyway, I'd better go check on the supplies. It's nice to have you back." Radar gave a small wave before walking away.
Jesse turned towards the rest of her friends before speaking. "I wanted to thank you guys too... you all pretty much dropped everything to help me. I'm really sorry for dragging you into the whole mess."
Petra shook her head and put her arm around Jesse. "I'd drop any adventure if it meant keeping my best friend safe."
"Yeah. Of course, we've got stuff going on, but you're way more important." Axel insisted.
