pound, pound
Romeo shifted in bed.
pound, pound
His eyes blinked open.
pound, pound, pound
He pulled the covers off, stumbling out of bed, determined to find the cause of this disturbance. It had to have been at least two in the morning, but he didn't bother to check. The pounding continued, while he followed the noise straight to the source. The training room. There, he saw Jesse, dressed in her usual workout clothes, with her hair tied in a half-up-half-down style. Hairs stuck out in every direction, suggesting that she's been at this for hours. She didn't seem to notice Romeo yet, as her back was to him. Seeing her was a relief since he had no idea where she was yesterday. After his interaction with Lukas, he was truly worried about her.
He approached the girl, while her repeated punching at the bag did not get any slower. He got closer and noticed an unmistakable blood-red staining her knuckles. He set his arms on her shoulders, causing Jesse to spin around, giving him a small punch in the chest out of instinct.
Seeing who it was, she stared into his eyes for no longer than a second, quickly returning her focus to the punching bag. She swung her arms, going at it once again.
Romeo studied her carefully, as he stood, arms crossed, behind her. "What are you doing, Jesse?"
"Exactly what it looks like." she huffed, not stopping her steady rate of punches.
He didn't move a muscle, watching her form and every sudden movement. "You're weak."
Jesse ignored his comment, only increasing the force she initiated onto the bag.
"You won't win a fight like that," he spoke again.
As the words left his mouth, Jesse turned to face him, breathing at a heavy rate. "What do you know?"
"More than you." he replied in a 'matter of fact' tone.
Jesse's expression stiffened. "You're so confident about that, aren't you?" She made her way to the mat and held her arms in the fighting stance. "Spar with me."
Romeo raised his eyebrows and simply answered, "No."
A wave of anger came over Jesse. "And why not? Afraid you'll get beat?"
He couldn't help but laugh at her question. "You're hurt."
Gesturing to her, still bloodstained, hands she dug her fingernails into the palm of her hands.
"I'm fine." She brushed him off.
"No you're not." he walked up to her, placing a firm hand onto her arm and leading her out of the room.
Jesse fought to tear it off, but his grip was too strong. He only tightened it as she tried to break free. She gave up her efforts, obviously knowing that it was no use. Why was there so much tension between them tonight? She had no idea. He brought her into the kitchen, finally releasing her arm to get something from one of the drawers.
As he shuffled through it, Jesse's eyes wandered to the outside atmosphere. Though it was late, it was always dark underneath the bedrock, for obvious reasons. It looked the same as it did during the day, except for the street lights, which were now lit, which made zero sense. Romeo returned to her, carrying the small med kit in his hands.
"Sit," he commanded.
Jesse huffed a laugh, but, for some reason, surrendered. She slumped down in the chair, as he held his hand out for hers. He gingerly wrapped one of her knuckles in the gauze, going over it multiple times to cover any blood that had seeped through. As he took care of her, she looked into his eyes, observing the concentration in them.
