Jesse left Romeo not long after. She told him to find her before he left for Beacontown so she could say one last goodbye. Not forever, obviously. The trip wouldn't take more than two days on estimate. Unless something went wrong of course. Jesse shook off the negative thoughts. No. Everything will be okay. She really wished she could go with him, but she knew he wouldn't allow it. Besides, she also knew Romeo could protect himself just fine on his own. He knew how to fight. He was strong. Even so, the surface wasn't nearly as dangerous as underneath the bedrock. She always wondered how people could live down here.
Still uncertain as to where Lukas and Petra were, Jesse decided to head to the library. In all honesty, she hadn't been there much in the time that she's lived in Romeo's fortress. It came as a surprise to her since she always had a liking for books. Her favorites were thrill-seeking adventure novels. They made an escape route out of reality so that she could travel to some other fantasy world.
She stepped into the library. It had to be without a doubt one of the largest rooms in the fortress. Slightly larger than her library back in the mansion even. The shelves were monstrous, nearly reaching the tall height of the room itself. She roamed the aisles, her eyes drifting over the different covers of books. One, in particular, caught her attention. She stopped in front of it and gazed over the spine. There was no title. She cocked her head. Strange. She pulled it out to get a closer look. The dusty brown book was composed of such flimsy material. Pages stuck out at each end. Even if there was a title, it would have been hidden under the absurd amount of dust on top. Her eyes squinted at the object in her hands.
She flipped through the stiff pages, trying to get some idea of what information it contained. She stopped on a random page. The words weren't typed, but instead, written down. The letters were written in a rather fancy matter, with unique curls and curves detailed on each one. She wouldn't call it cursive handwriting though. It was sort of difficult to decipher some words. Now she was very curious.
She walked over to one of the tables, bringing the book she found along with her. She sat down and opened back up to the same page from before. But the writing was gone. All of it. What? She marked the page so she wouldn't lose her place though. Her face scrunched up with confusion. She turned to the next page only to discover the same exact problem. Blank. She flipped through the entire book, which as of now was entirely empty. The pages that were once filled to the bottom with text were gone. Was her mind playing tricks on her? She wasn't crazy. No, she wasn't. She saw it.
A short chuckle was heard behind her. She shot her head around but saw no one. Jesse's heart quickened its pace.
So you're seeing and hearing things now. You really are a crazy psycho.
"Stop- just shut up!" She whisper shouted at the little voice inside her head.
I hope you aren't talking to me.
Jesse stood abruptly from her chair, accidentally causing it to tip over and crash to the floor. One single thought came over her. Herobrine is in this room. Her head shot in all different directions, but couldn't find anyone else present. The lights began to flicker, giving her a near heart attack. Her hands balled into tight fists.
"I'll take good care of Beacontown for you, Jesse," he spoke her name like a disease.
What started as a faint chuckle, gradually turned into a menacing laugh. His voice rang in her ears, getting louder and louder, deafening her as it took over her mind. She yelled out in agony, pulling at her ears, almost ready to gouge them off with her bare fingernails. Tears trickled down her cheekbones, some falling far enough to reach the bottom of her chin and splat onto the floor. His laugh simmered down eventually as she slowly lifted her hands from her ears. Without warning, the lights shut off completely. Only the sound of her rapid breathing played throughout the library.
