After that first time, it came to us as easily as breathing. It got harder and harder to resist each other. We fought those needs at first but we couldn't stop from giving in. I knew my family would have been disgusted at me. How dare I involve myself with sexual relations before marriage? It was something I had thought about privately. I never told Alice my thoughts and only thought about it when we were on the run. I couldn't bear the idea of rejection when we were this close. She hadn't just made love with me. We hadn't just kissed. She had bitten me, making me her's. I wanted to be her's. Mary Alice Whitlock? It had a certain ring to it.

Alice was everything I would have looked for in a partner. I hadn't been looking for love yet. It hadn't been my intentions. I hadn't been looking when I joined the Texas Calvary at fifteen. I didn't even think about that when the war was finally over and I could go home as the youngest major, history made. It was when I saw my sister and how happy she looked with her husband and two children. I could imagine Alice pregnant with our second baby while our firstborn played at her feet. I could imagine a gold band on her finger. I thirsted for that. I thirsted for that image more than I had ever thirsted for anything before. Maybe not the children just yet. I wasn't sure I was ready to be a father just yet. But I DID want to be Alice's husband and I wanted her to be my wife. More than anything.

Due to our high sex drives, we decided to wait a while before joining with the Cullens. Alice told me about them. I liked to listen about them, picturing them in my head.

"Carlisle's the leader. He's married to Esme. He's the father figure to all the others."

"How many are there again?"

"Five. Carlisle is a practiced doctor. He's very good at his work. Esme is his wife. She's really passionate about the other three and thinks of them as her children. She is especially fond of Edward."

"How old is he?"

"Physically seventeen," I liked the idea of Edward being younger than me. Like a little brother almost. "He is a mind-reader. He was the first to join the family with Carlisle."

"And then Esme?"

"Yes. Rosalie came along next. They thought she would make a nice partner for Edward but they didn't think of each other like that, just siblings."

"And then Emmett came along?"

"Yes. He's the same age as you are but he is slightly different from you. He's much more stronger than either of us. He's married to Rose."

"Where are they now?" Alice closed her eyes and thought for a minute. I let her enter her visions.

"They're in Denali, Alaska with another family that they think closely of."

"Do you see us there?" Alice shook her head.

"No. Not yet. I think that means that we have our own tale to live first." I smiled and held Alice close to me.

"Sounds like a good plan." She snuggled into me and I kissed the top of her head. We had time for ourselves now.
