Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Though, I wish I could just skip directly to Christmas
First of all, I am very grateful to all of you for liking my work. Those of you who point out little errors, thank you also. I sort of began writing this novel in high school when I had only begun learning English and it was still very crappy and basic. I also write the chapters at night and on weekends after finishing school and work, so there are some things that I might miss. So, thank you for pointing out those errors. I love you all so much.
Which brings me to some IMPORTANT information.
As you all know, I'm writing the ending differently and in doing so, I'm also backtracking and making a number of changes to earlier seasons. When I first began writing this story, I honestly was just doing a fanfiction for fun because I loved the series and I wasn't planning on really changing anything. Now that's not the case anymore which brings me to some bad news. The future chapters will be getting MUCH longer.
Rhaenys is the main character in this fanfic but Game of Thrones is a story without actual protagonists until they added that crazy plot armor, so because there will be a number of deviations from the original series, I will have to add more scenes of what's happening to other people. Some of these scenes might feel like they don't have any changes from what happened originally, but for the most part, all the scenes I'm adding are there for a reason. I will try to cut the super long chapters into parts like I did with the previous four but just letting you guys know so that you can be prepared.
Anyways, sorry for the long message. We're getting to Yunkai in the next chapter and that's when the fun begins.
– Somewhere in Essos –
As they neared Yunkai, they stopped rushing so that they wouldn't be dead tired when they reached the city against which they would be battling. They also stopped bothering as much in making their camp look pretty to avoid wasting time.
For instance, other than a medium-sized tent and a makeshift bed on the floor, Rhaenys didn't let the others add anything more to her own tent. Any letters she read or wrote were done so on top of any hard surface she found. The empty journals she got her hands on did a pretty good job of that most of the time.
Now, those same journals had found themselves another use.
Rhaenys sat on the floor of her tent with her legs crossed, the journal on her lap, and ink and a quill pen on her right. "Did you find out what I asked?"
Missandei sat a couple of steps away from Rhaenys. At her prompting, Missandei moved a little closer. "This one did not want anyone to learn I was snooping and could not find much, but... From what this one learned, it seems Grey Worm was one of the hardest nuts to crack. He resisted the most and was punished the most. His defiance is one of the things that made his comrades believe that he was their best option."
"He is the only one the Unsullied know might speak against even me if something happens. They made a good choice." They might not be ready to speak their minds just yet, but they are getting there. Rhaenys wanted loyalty, not blind obedience.
"This one learned something else. Apparently, when he was sent to his last test to become an Unsullied..."
"The murdering of an infant." Rhaenys finished for Missandei. She remembered that part too well. It was hard to ignore that each of her soldiers represented a dead child and a crying mother.
