It had been a while since the arrival of the Royal Family to Winterfell and their stayed was mostly peaceful. Or at least it had been until the unfortunate accident in the Broken Tower from which Brandon had suddenly fallen for no apparent reason.
The boy who was so talented at climbing, no matter the weather, had somehow fallen.
It was something that Rhaenys could not believe, but there was no proof of the contrary and with Bran in a coma, they could not ask him for the truth.
At the very least, they knew he would survive. When he would wake up was still a mystery though. A mystery which was nagging at the bones of many in the Keep.
With those thoughts in mind, Rhaenys stared at the three dragon eggs. Two of them, the blue and yellow ones, laid in a chest with candles around them. While the last one, the red egg, was in held gently in her hands before she placed it down beside the others.
She had been told they were nothing more than rocks now, but Rhaenys could feel their heartbeat, their warmth. She could tell they were still alive, she could feel it.
"Rhaenys, it's me!" called Lord Stark from the door after knocking, startling the former princess.
"Just a moment!" she hurried and covered the hole behind her bed. Once she was sure nothing could be noticed, Rhaenys went towards the door, "Did you need something, Lord Stark?"
Hesitating for a moment, the man asked lowly, "May I come in?"
"Of course." the albino opened the door wider.
Slowly, Ned stepped in and sat by the window defeated, "Rhaenys, there's something very important we have to talk about. The King... he wants you to come with us to King's Landing."
"No..." Ned went to try to speak, but she wouldn't listen, "I am not going anywhere with that man!"
Eddard went to her side and held her closer by the shoulders, "Listen to me, Rhaenys! Robert hates your family and anyone who has your silver head. He will use any excuse to kill you. Don't give him one. I beg of you. Live any way you can. Just like Jon, he's leaving for the Wall with us."
At that, the Targaryen looked back at him in confusion, eyebrows furrowed, "Jon...? He's leaving...?"
All the air left her lungs as tears threatened to fall. Ignoring everything else, Rhaenys ran off from the room. She looked everywhere she knew where he could be, finally finding him in the Godswoods.
Once he saw her, the white wolf went to her side, "What happened?! Did someone-?"
"Is it true? Are you leaving for the Wall?"
His dark orbs widened as they locked on her lilac ones.
He was worried that someone else had made her cry, but it had been him. He had hurt her, though it was something he should have expected from his decision, it was still hard to be the cause of her tears.
Seeing her like that made him nearly decide to stay by her side until he remembered that she could be killed by Robert Baratheon if she disobeyed the order.
Jon hesitated, the words stuck in his mouth as he tried to stop his own cries, "Aye. I have decided to join the Wall as a sworn brother. I won't ever be coming back, Rhaenys. You should move on."
"You promised. You promised to never leave me alone ever again." the princess stared at him in betrayal, tears falling down her cheeks. Not giving him time to answer, Rhaenys turned around and left, brushing her cheeks harshly.
The moment she disappeared from his sight, Jon leaned against the Weirwood, sobs escaping his lips, "I am so sorry, Rhae. I wish things could be different."
