Chapter 16: Civil Unrest

Y/N pov:

We just left Restoration HQ, it's been overrun by zombots. Only a few made it to the only shuttle left, me, Espio, Amy, Cream, Gemerl, and a few others I didn't know personally. We're on our way to Central City to evacuate any refugees we could. Hopefully Tails, Tangle and Whisper will be there too. I really need to see Whisper, it's been a long and stressful day.

I'm sitting next to Espio, trying to calm him from what just happened. "We'll get them back, we'll find a cure..." He looks straight at me, "this shouldn't have happened... I should have..." I try to console him. "Calm down, It's not your fault..." He looks at me, pure anger in his eyes. "You don't get to try and tell me to calm down!" He stands up, and looks down on me. "Why are you mad at me?" "You were holding them back, you should have seen Charmy coming!"

At this point I'm getting angry. "If you want to point fingers let's take a look at your track record, you two brought him there, in one of those flimsy little capsules, why would you think that's a good idea!?" He looks away. "We thought we could contain him..." I stand up, I'm a bit taller than him. "Yea thought being the key word there!" "Well if Gemerl hadn't stopped us, we would have gotten him to Tails' lab and it wouldn't have been a big deal!" I look at Gemerl, who, as usual, doesn't seem to care that much. "Gemerl was doing his job, the job that he was assigned to keep the infected out, and you distracted him!"

Suddenly Amy comes between us. "You two are acting like children! I know your both looking for someone to blame, we all are! But fighting each other won't solve this! We'll get through this if we keep our cool, and stick together!" We both look at each other for a while, then back down, and he extends his hand to me. I shake it and smile to him. "Sorry about that..." He smiles weakly, "it's alright"

I go into the cockpit and look at the map, it'll be a while before we get to Central City, so it wouldn't hurt to catch some z's. I sit outside the cockpit door, and quickly fall asleep.

I wake up in a dark street, in the outskirts of a town I've never seen before. Not knowing what to do, I head towards the town. I see a sign, it says the towns name is,

'Spiral Hill Village'

Isn't this where Tangle lives? I go further into the village, until I find a museum, and I hear crying inside. Being confused and a bit concerned, I head inside. "Hello?" I called out into the darkness, I hear the crying getting louder. I turn a corner, and see Whisper sitting, curled into a ball. "Whisper?" She doesn't respond, so I get closer. "Whisper, it's me, Y/N!" She turns around slowly, I see her face is covered in the metallic goo. "Whisper!" I want to hug her, but I'll get infected.

"Y/N, run... please..." I want to run, but I can't, I can't leave her like this, I need to comfort her. I walk to her, and get down on my knees. She tries to back away, but I grab her arm, infecting myself. "Y/N NO!" She looks like she wants to hit me. "I can't leave you like this, I'll never leave you." she hugs me, and cries harder, I'm crying a bit too. "You shouldn't have done that..." I look at her, and kiss her passionately.

"I can't keep going without you..."

I feel the infection taking over, but before I lose control, I hear Whisper say, "I love you so much." After that, I lose consciousness, and it fades to black...

I wake up with a yell, and everyone looks at me. "Are you ok?" Amy asks, bending down to me. "Yea, I'm fine, how close are we to Central City?" She looks at the map in the cockpit. "We'll be there in about 5 minutes." I feel a bit relieved. "Ok, thanks..." I sit beside Cream, the dream still heavy on my mind. "Mr. Y/N?" I look to my left, and see Cream, tears still in her eyes.

"Hi Cream... I'm really sorry all this has happened..." "it's ok, i-i'm sure we'll find a way to get e-everyone back!" I smile at her enthusiasm. "Yea, I'm sure we will!" We both smile at each other, then we hear the pilot. "Coming up on Central City now!" I look out of the windows of the aircraft, and see a dock coming into view. We touch down, and people start funneling in, I hear a familiar, enthusiastic voice.

"C'mon people, our ride is here! Hustle, hustle, hustle!" I smile, her enthusiasm means that Whisper and Tails are ok, at least, I hope so. I look at Cream once more, then stand up and try to make my way through the crowd funneling their way inside. My suspicions are confirmed as I hear a familiar, usually quiet voice calling out to me. I smile wide as I hear her.

"Y/N! Y/N, are you there!?"
