Chapter 19: Loss

Whisper pov:

I swing across the abandoned buildings of Spiral Hill Village from my grappling hook, Y/N and Tangle are still at the museum. They told me to head to the shuttle, that they would catch up. I'm still worried about them, but they're capable, and I saw Sonic run towards the museum, so he'll be able to help them too.

As I make it to the shuttle, I see that Amy, Gemerl, Cream and Tails are there, letting a few refugees into the shuttle. Amy sees me, "Hey Whisper, where are Y/N and Tangle?" I look at her, I'm still not used to talking to people who aren't Y/N or Tangle, so I'm still a bit awkward. "Museum, searching for Jewel" She looks back at the people entering the shuttle. "Alright, Sonic is here." I start walking towards the shuttle boarding ramp. "Saw him heading towards the museum..." "Good, so he's helping them" I take up a tactical position at the entrance of the shuttle.

Some time passes, and Espio appears in front of the shuttle. "Espio, how'd it go?" He looks at her. "Went fine, found Sonic." "Good, where are they..?" She says more to herself. I start getting a bit anxious too, they should be here by now, are they still in the museum? Sonic was helping them, they should be here by now.

Suddenly, Sonic turns a corner in front of us, "Alright let's go, I'll ride on the top!" Tangle and Y/N aren't with him, I start getting even more scared. "W-where are Tangle a-and Y/N?" "They got infected, they're holding back zombots so we can escape. Tangle said they were sorry, but heroes have nothing to be sorry for..." Everyone looks at him, shocked, but I just think about it for a moment, thoughts racing throughout my mind.

No, he can't be, he said he wasn't going to get infected, I believed him! I had to believe him... Tangle, she was always so full of energy, when around her, it's like this situation was never even happening. Now she... I need to save them...

I need to save them!

"Y/N! TANGLE! NO!"

I try to run past everyone, but Amy grabs me, tears are streaming down my face, I try to tell her to let me go, but I can't get the words out. She's talking to someone, but I don't care who, I need to help them! The wisps pop out of their capsules and start pulling me back.

"DON'T!"

They pull me back into the shuttle, and Amy calls into the shuttle. "NO! STOP! LET ME SAVE THEM!" They don't listen, and the shuttle takes off. I get free of the wisps, and I bang on the shuttle door for a while before curling up in a ball on one of the seats, sobbing uncontrollably. The wisps try to comfort me.

My thoughts are interrupted as I feel someone pick my head up, and set it back down on their legs, I look up and see it was Cream, looking down at me sadly. I continue bawling. Eventually I hear Amy talking to someone, but I'm too disoriented to understand. I wipe my eyes and listen, I hear the pilot say, "we can't stay in the air forever, we'll run out of fuel eventually."

"Well, there's nowhere left for us to go..." Tails speaks up. "Well, actually there is one place, we could go to Angel Island, it's closed off from the rest of the world, and maybe if we're lucky, the Master Emerald will tell us how to cure the Metal Virus!" Amy looks out of a window. "Well, we don't have any other ideas... pilot, set a course!"

I feel a weak glimmer of hope as I hear that. I hope it can tell us how to cure it. I need them back, I need them,

I need them...

I slowly drift off to sleep.
