The man paddles his barge across the lake Rosa sits nearby watching the waters below "So what's someone like you doing with a group of male dwarves anyhow." the man asked out of nowhere while steering the barge
This surprised her, she smiled before answering "They're my friends, I'm traveling with them. May I ask what is your name?"
"Bard, you can call me Bard and yours."
She smiles "I'm Rosa, Rosa Baggins It's nice to meet you, Bard. Thank you for helping us."
"Well, Rosa if I must say, you seem nicer than your companions over there." He motions his head toward the others in the front
This makes her chuckle "Yeah, well they aren't all as bad as you may think, they're quite a nice group once you get to know them."
"Right." Is all he said

Later Rosa decides to wander a bit and sees Fili sitting alone and goes over to him "Mind?"
Fili smiled at her moving over a bit. This makes her smile as she sits next to him.
She looks around and sees the dwarves talking amongst themselves. As she sits there she feels a hand on her hand she looks and notices Fili's has a small blush. Rosa blushed turning her hand to hold and squeeze his. Surprised Fili looks down to see Rosa smiling as she rests her head on him. This brings a warm feeling to Fili. He smiles resting his head on hers ignoring the few odd glances from the others. Even Bofurs comment to watch out when they came upona large stone formation. Bard expertly poles the barge between the rock formations, which turn out to be ancient ruins.
"What are you trying to do, drown us?" Thorin growled at him
"I was born and bred on these waters, Master Dwarf. If I wanted to drown you, I would not do it here." Bard replies calmly continuing to steer
"Oh, I have enough of this lippy Lakeman. I say we throw him over the side and be done with him." Dwalin comments
"His names Bard it's Bard" Bilbo tell him
"How do you know that?"
"Uh, I asked him."
"I don't care what he calls himself, I don't like him," Dwalin says looking to Thorin
"We do not have to like him, we simply have to pay him." Balin reminds him "Come on now, lads, turn out your pockets."
The dwarves begin pulling out their money and valuables.
"How do we know he won't betray us?" Dwalin whispers to Thorin
"We don't." Thorn says back watching as Balin counts the money.
"There's, um, just a problem: we're ten coins short."
Thorin crossed his arm looking to Gloin "Gloin. Come on. Give us what you have."
"Don't look to me. I have been bled dry by this venture! And what have I seen for my investment? Naught but misery and grief and-" Gloin stops talking when he realizes that all the others have slowly stood up and are looking at something in the distance. As the fog thins, they see the Lonely Mountain. "Bless my beard. Take it. Take all of it." Gloin hands Balin a sack of coins he had secretly withheld before.
Bilbo coughs and gestures his head toward Bard, who is approaching the dwarves on their end of the barge. "The money, quick, give it to me." he says holding out his hand
"We'll pay you when we get our provisions, but not before."
Bard doesn't move "If you value your freedom, you'll do as I say. There are guards ahead."
They look off in the distance and see the rooaf of Lake-town and a tower. Blain hands Thorin who recently hands the money to Bard.
"Quick in the barrels and stay quiet they mustn't hear you," Bard tell them
They look at him for a moment then grumbled getting into the barrels
