Unwanted Attractions

Chapter 38

  Hours later at the gate, the dwarves with some help from Bilbo and Rosa begin working to block up the entrance that Smaug broke through. They carry rocks both by hand and with the help of various pulleys and other machines.
  "I want this fortress made safe by sunup. This mountain was hard won - I will not see it taken again." Thorin tells them
  Kili stops dropping the wheelbarrow he was pulling "The people of Laketown have nothing. They came to us in need. They have lost everything."
  "Do not tell me what they have lost. I know well enough their hardship. Those who have lived through dragonfire should rejoice. They have much to be grateful for." Thorin looks out at the city of Dale, where many fires can be seen lit by the people. He then turns and shouts to them "More stone! BRING MORE STONE TO THE GATE!"
  Rosa and Bilbo looked at each saddened. Just then Thorin strides toward the blocked-off gate, calling to the dwarves "Come on!" The dwarves lay down their tools, pick up their weapons, and they follow him up the stairs they've created, all the way to a platform they have built at the top of the gate. They see the walls of Dale filled with Elves ready for war. Bard rides up the path to the gate on a horse and stops in front of the gate. "Hail Thorin, son of Thrain! We are glad to find you alive beyond hope."
  "Why do you come to the gates of the king under the mountain armed for war?" Thorin asked 
  "Why does the king under the mountain fence himself in? Like a robber in his hole." Brad asked back
  "Perhaps it is because I am expecting to be robbed."
  "My lord - We have not come to rob you, but to seek fair settlement. Will you not speak with me?"
  Thorin nods, and steps away from the platform and down the stairs. Rosa grabs Bilbo's hand squeezing his hand and looking at him and he tries giving her a reassuring smile worried. the group listens as Throin and Bard Talk under them. after a bit Thorin shout "Be gone, ere arrow fly!" once Thorin goes up the stairs Bilbo goes up to him "What are you doing?! You cannot go to war."
  "This does not concern you," Thorin tells him
  "Excuse me?! But just in case you haven't noticed, there is an army of elves out there. And not to mention several hundred angry fishermen. We-We are in fact outnumbered." Bilbo points out
  "Bilbo's right Thorin there's only 15 of us, how are we supposed to fight two armies with presumably ten times more people," Rosa adds
  Thorin turns to them smiling "We won't be for much longer."
  The two stare at him confused "What does that mean?"
  "It means Master and Madam Baggins, you should never underestimate dwarves." Thorin tells them then turns to the others "We have reclaimed Erebor - Now we defend it!" 

  Soon Thorin has the dwarves suiting up for battle. As they do so Rosa goes over to Bilbo "Bilbo we need to talk," she whispers
  "Ok, why are you whispering?"
  "Just come with me," Rosa says a little forceful grabbing Bilbo's hand and dragging him somewhere away from Dwarf's ears.
  "Where are we going?"
Rosa doesn't answer continuing to drag Bilbo with her. Rosa had bought Bilbo to the garden knowing that no one would bother them. Bilbo sits on a beach as Rosa paces.
  "Ro, what's going on?" he asks as she continued pacing
  "We need to do something." Rosa says finally stopping crossing her arms "'cause I hate seeing what's happening. Maybe if we give Thorin the Arkenstone he'll be more reasonable."
  "What! No, no Rosa I talked with Balin. He said if Thorin had the stone it could make things worse."
  "Wait you've told Balin!?"
  "What No, I only hypothetically asked him.
  "Well, We have to do something, Bilbo."
  "I have an idea of a plan on maybe how to fix things."
  Rosa smiles clasping her hands together "Great, how can I help."
  "What no, no, no, You can't help. It's bad enough I'm probably putting myself in harm's way."
  Rosa shakes her head "No way, listen if there is even a small chance we can save everyone I want to...no u need help."
  Bilbo and Rosa stared at each other as if having a staring contest. "Fine. he groaned before walking out.
