The Argument

Anakin walked over to Padme and pulled her into a hug. They stood like that for a long time, enjoying the moment. When Padme woke up the next morning he was gone and she sighed, sometimes she wished he didn't have to go. She got up and got ready to face the day.

6 months later.

Anakin tiredly walked down the jedi halls. The council meeting had dragged on for hours and he just wanted to get home to Padme. He grabbed his bag and headed out. When he arrived Padme was asleep, so he set his bag down and not bothering to change he climbed in next to her. He put his arm around her and fell asleep.

Padme woke up and stretched only to bump into something. Her hand automatically went to her blaster, but she relaxed when she saw it was Anakin. Anakin shifted and opened his eyes and smiled, "Good morning Padme." "Good morning Ani." Padme got up only to be pulled back down by Anakin. "Ani I need to get up", Padme laughed. "No, just stay with me in bed." "Ani I need to get ready for work." Anakin reluctantly let go and Padme went to get dressed. When she came out Anakin was up and pulling on his boots. "Well I have a few things to attend to today, maybe we could have dinner together tonight?", said Padme. "Sure, it's a date then", said Anakin. They ate breakfast and then went their separate ways for the day.

Anakin arrived to find Ashoka waiting for him for their sparring match. "You're late Master." "I know, and stop calling me Master, you're a jedi knight." "Sorry, habit, Anakin." "Well shall we begin?" They headed to the sparring room and began. They ended around noon, with a draw. "Very good Ashoka, now let's eat", said Anakin. They laughed and raced to the lunch room.

Padme waited impatiently for her husband. He was late again, she had ended up eating alone and now he was 3 hours late. This was the longest time he had been late. She heard the door open and knew it was Anakin. He walked in and sat next to her, "Padme I'm sorry, the council meeting went really long and I tried..." "Well you didn't try hard enough", Padme snapped. "You're 3 hours late and I ended up eating alone. You promised Anakin and you broke it." "I'm sorry Padme but the council meeting..." "Oh I know about the council meetings, all you do is sit in stupid chairs and meditate." "And all you do is sit in your offices arguing", shouted back Anakin. "You know what you can just go, see if I care about you. In fact get out, I don't want to see you again." Anakin angrily got up, "Fine." He got up and walked out. Anakin angrily walked to the temple, but deep inside he was hurting. Padme was the world to him and hearing her say she didn't care about him hurt more if she had stabbed him. Anakin had arrived at the temple and went to his room brushing away Ashoka leaving her looking confusingly at him.

Ashoka knocked at Anakin's room the next morning. "Come in" Anakin said. Ashoka walked in to Anakin sitting at his table cluttered with spare parts. He was fixing a communication board and was deeply engrossed in it. Ashoka sat down on the bed and watched Anakin work, something was wrong and she could sense it. "Anakin what happened?" "Nothing that matters." "Why won't you tell me?" "Why would you care?" "Because I'm your friend and former Padawan." "It's nice to know someone cares", Anakin said softly. "Padme and I got in an argument, that's all. Now if you excuse me, I need to be going to a council meeting." Anakin abruptly got up and left. Ashoka sighed, maybe she should go meditate for awhile.

A little later Anakin approached her in the library, "Good news Snips, we are being sent on a mission to find Cad Bane. We need to go to the Senate real quick to update the Chancellor and then we're off." "I'll go pack my things and then I'll be ready." Ashoka and Anakin packed and then got the ship fired up and ready to go. They headed to the Senate to talk to the Chancellor and then they were heading to Naboo to find Bane. As Anakin and Ashoka were walking back to the ship they ran into Padme and it was awkward to say the least. Anakin stiffened and bowed politely, "Senator Amidala, good to see you." "As is you General Skywalker." There was an awkward silence until Anakin said, "If you excuse us, Ashoka and I we need to be going." "Of course, I'm sure you're are very busy." Anakin nodded and walked off with Ashoka trailing after. When they were in hyperspace Ashoka decided to ask Anakin a question, "Anakin, why didn't you tell her about us going away?" "Because she wouldn't care Snips." "Of course she would..." "No she wouldn't, she wouldn't care!", Anakin shouted. "Let's just drop the question Snips." They continued on in silence until they arrived at a small village in Naboo where Bane had supposedly been spotted a few hours ago. They walked through the village on high alert. When they didn't find anything Anakin turned toward Ashoka, a mistake that would be deadly. "Well there's nothing, he must have left." Suddenly two shots rang out, Anakin turned not knowing what was going on, only to be hit by two bullets in the chest. Anakin crumpled to the ground not moving. Ashoka looked up in time to see Cad Bane flying away. Ashoka knew she had to get Anakin to Courascant. She picked him up and carried him to the ship. While flying she contacted the Jedi and they said to bring him to the Courascant hospital. Ashoka arrived at Courascant a hour later. Medics carried Anakin to the emergency room and Ashoka was forced to stay behind. Obi-Wan walked in, "Ashoka how is he doing?" "I don't know, he's still back there and they haven't let me in." Obi-Wan nodded, "I see, well I need to go. I'm supposed to be on Felucia with the clones, but I wanted to check in on Anakin first." "Good luck Master Kenobi, may the force be with you." "As with you Ashoka." He bowed and left. Ashoka decided to call Padme and contacted her. Padme said she would come as soon as she could.

Anakin woke up to bright lights and he quickly shut them. He tried again, more slowly and he managed to open them all the way. Ashoka suddenly walked in, "Anakin how are you feeling?" Anakin tried to sit up, but was in too much pain. He ripped off the oxygen mask and he tried to speak, "Okay, besides getting shot.". Ashoka read the medical chart, "You have two punctured lungs and surprisingly that's it." Anakin rolled his eyes at her, "Very funny."

Padme came in then and Ashoka moved aside. "I'll leave you two alone." Padme sat down next to Anakin, "Ani I'm sorry about earlier, I shouldn't have said it. I was just frustrated I guess." "It's all right, I'll try not to be late again." Anakin leaned his head back and fell asleep. Padme noticed that each breath seemed to be painful and she squeezed his hand tighter.

Over the next week Anakin got better and was released from the hospital. He kept getting better until he was well enough to fight again. Then he was shipped out with Ashoka to the Outer Rim to fight.
