Vera's POV:
"I'm telling you this because I want you take pre-cautions when you're with him, Vera." His calm yet stern voice made it more alarming than it is. It's cold and that's what I inherited about him. "Bankruptcy is not in my vocabulary. You shouldn't believe everything someone's telling you, even if it came to me. I taught you how to be observant and yet you let your admiration for him to cloud your senses."
Tumungo lang ako. The only person who could make me lower my guard down is my father and a certain someone who's been occupying my mind and me lately... Anyway, I kept my mouth shut dahil ramdam ko ang disappointment ng aking ama sa mga desisyon ko. Even I am disappointed in myself. Nagpadalos dalos ako and yeah, nagpadala ako sa pagka ulila ko sa taong matagal ng hinahanap ng puso ko, or so I thought.
I was so indebted by Adrianne that I closed my heart to the opportunity of someone who genuinely cared about me, pure and no other intentions.
Dad stared at me for a good while, his hand clasped together and his chin rested on top of his hands.
"If it weren't because of your father-in-law, we would've been eaten alive by the rats who's trying to dig their way in to our company. And you were their way." He emphasized at the word you. I sighed, "You've let your guard down long enough, Adeline. Remember when I told you, you didn't know what you've just done, to paidí mou." (Translation: My child in Greek) My heart instanly skipped a beat at what he called me, it used to be what my mother was calling me before she passed away.
"Dad." I said in a weak voice, I want him to stop but I can't find my voice. Para bang may nakabara sa lalamunan ko.
"That secretary of his," He smirked, "She's very sneaky, what was her name again? I forgot but I tell you this to trick the mighty Alberto Dela Frontera is like playing tricks with the joker itself." He chuckled with no rumor in his eyes. I saw how he admires my wife's dad, if I didn't know better, I'd think Dela Frontera is his business mentor.
(N/A: Have I mentioned Andrei's dad's first name already? If yes, remind me the name.)
I used to get jealous when someone mentions Adrianne's wife but right now, I don't know. I don't feel anything of some sort, instead I feel enraged. She's the reason why my relationship with Adrianne crippled. Don't get me wrong, I despise her because of the fact the she's a relationship wrecker but now that I've been enlightened, I'm glad she did that. Tapos ngayon, malaman laman ko na siya ang tinutukoy ni dad na pilit sinisira ang kompanya namin.
That day Adrianne came back was the day they executed their plan. She was the mastermind and Adrianne was her stupid puppet, how fascinating. Their plan is to get Adrianne to take me back, let my guard fall and slowly make their way in our company. It's a simple plan and yet muntik na nilang makuha ang gusto nila because of me.
I must thank Aubrey, though. If it weren't for her pep talk, hindi ako matatauhan. I would still be blinded by the longing I felt when I lost my knight, my savior. If it weren't for her, I would've lost my King.
That reminds me of the question I've always wanted to ask.
"How long have you known about my marriage?" He looked at me intently, his eyes softened and chuckles.
"Since that day you married, to paidí mou." Kumunot ang noo ko, still confused. His smile remained on his beautiful face, tila hindi man lang ito tumatanda. "Ever wondered how you married?" Makahulogang tanong nito. My eyebrows knitted together in more confusion.
"What do you mean?"
But now that I think about it, I never knew the details of our marriage. All I knew is we married to some random priest in Vegas while drunk. Pero ngayon, something's telling me that it wasn't random at all.
