Chapter XVII

"Vera signed what?!" My dad's voice rumbled through this four cornered room. His eyes were undeniably enraged. Aminin ko man ay natatakot ako sa paraan ng pagkakatitig niya sa akin. This is the first time I saw him like this at iyon ang ipinagtataka ko.

"I made you that bet to prepare you in this kind of situation but I guess you're failing my expectation." He looked displeased. Nakakunot ang noo nitong nakatitig sa akin. He fixed his tie. "You can't stand without my supervision."

"Dad, this is not about the wrath of the Monteros anymore." I tried to reason out. "It's about Vera's feelings."

"And what about yours?"

Natigil ako at hindi ako makahanap ng isusumbat ko dito. He shook his head, clearly disappointed about my decision.

"Doesn't matter. It's already signed."

"You didn't know what you've just done, child."

He looked at the papers in front of him at ipinagpatuloy ang pag pirma sa mga ito. I take it as the end of our conversation kaya naman ay nagpaalam na ako dito at umalis.

I sighed when I closed the door behind me.

Okay, that didn't go well.

I went to my room at pabagsak na humiga dito. Nakatitig lang ako sa kisame and let my mind wander. There's too much going on right now, pakiramdam ko ay malulunod ako. I just want to graduate and get out of here as soon as possible. Balak kong umuwi ng Australia, buti pa doon at peaceful ang buhay. Why did I even bothered going here?

Once I give those documents to my lawyer, our marriage will officially be nulled. Vera and I will go on a separate way and I don't know how to continue from that defeat. Adrianne is so lucky to have Vera as his lover and a wife. Anyone would be so lucky to have Vera in their life.

I guess, acceptance is the key. Ako naman itong bigla nalang sumulpot sa buhay nilang dalawa. To be fair, I didn't know she was in love, I asked her too late. Just when my heart fell for her, dun ko lamang nalaman na may mahal pala itong iba. It makes sense tho, our marriage isn't planned at all.

I fished my phone on my pocket when it started ringing. I looked at the caller ID at kumunot ang noo ng makita ko ang tumatawag.

"Hello?"

"Hey there dear Andrei, is Vera with you?"

That nickname again. She always call me that to tease Vera dahil naiinis ito whenever she hears other people calling me Andrei. Until now, I didn't understand why.

"No, professor Alison, she's not."

I heard her 'ohh' on the other line, she chuckled.

"Too formal. Well, she ditched me last night at akala ko ay sumama siya sayo to continue what you were doing yesterday at her office." She giggled. Namula ako when I remembered what happened. Sabi ko na nga ba at alam nito ang nangyayari.

"I don't think I should be the one to inform you but Miss Montero and I decided to go on our separate ways."

She gasp dramatically at alam kong sapo nito ang dibdib dahil sa gulat, I rolled my eyes. Typical Miss Alison, always the dramatic friend.

"Oh no," she dragged the 'o', parang bata. "Why?"

I shrugged even tho she can't see.

"You should know the answer to that, Prof. She's your bestfriend."

"Is this about, Adrianne the bastard?" Natawa ako sa tinuran nito. "Stupid, Vera."

"Nagmamahal lang naman Prof. So harsh." I teased.
